Duffman Says a lot of things. But does he say buy this book?

This issue is the most love I’ve ever seen given to my favorite character, Duffman. He loves to party, and is known to have only the most legendary parties ever. Duffman Adventures gives us some of the best stories of his rise to power, including one that struck close to homw.

The Duffman Corps

As you can tell, this is a parody of the  Green Lantern Corps, but it was actually done well. Kyle McKagen was drinking into his tears, when the great Duff Beer can called to him. He takes it, and is transformed into Duffman! Duffman 2814 gets teleported to Planet Oyah, the greatest party in the universe. Duffman goes through the Duffman training, but he just can’t party to the level of the other Duffmen. He was about to throw his hat and glasses into the Party Foul Quitter Trash Can, when the Buzzkill Alert goes off with the return of Vinostro, Duffman 2814’s predecessor. He lead a conga line so large, it engulfed Coaster City. His injuries left him scarred and insane, vowing to never party again. He returned to end the Duffman Corps, and almost does it with free form jazz, current events, and parents. Just then our Duffman arrives, and parties so hard, he almost got Vinostro to party again.

The latter half of the book is a meeting of top television executives, meeting over DuffTV, a new 24 hour commercial free channel with Duffman as their lead in everything. How are they going to pay for it? Subtle product placement, of course. We have CSI: Duff, with Duffman, a robot Sherlock, and a bone specialist dog. Next, we have Duffton Alley, but I can’t explain it, because neither the original or Duffton Alley make much sense. After that, we got Duff Tales, which is Duffman in a terrible accent and duck bill, and Duffman almost killing himself in the beervault.

This book definitely gets an “Oh, Yeah!” for just the first story alone. The art in The Duffman Corps was definitely fantastic, and possibly the star of the comic. Given the lack of details the Simpsons comics have, this had more detail than normal, while keeping the characters right. The story is a very glossed over Green Lantern origin retelling, but crafted to where it fits Duffman. The end of the book, with all of the Duffman TV shows, felt rather dry, and forced in. Duff Tales in particular, just felt like it didn’t belong. Nothing called out to me, and they went flat. Luckily, The Duffman Corps still exists. Duffman definitely says “Buy this book!”
