Shorts Review: Politics (The Idiot’s Guide To Smart People) From Above Average!
The world needs its information broke down to the lowest common denominator every once in a while. Just because I tend to use big words doesn’t mean that I know every big word. I’ll have to crack open a dictionary from time to time to really figure out what a hipster is saying. There’s no shame in it. There’s also no shame in silently or subtly poking fun at people who just don’t understand. There are people in this world that will never understand money, religion and politics even if you explain it to them a thousand times.
This short is a very odd crossbreeding of styles. On one hand it has the feel of a songless School House Rock! But on the other it has a snarky feel like Do’s And Don’ts Guide from Shut UP Cartoons. As a matter of fact, I’d say it’s 25/75 with it being heavier in the Do’s dept. Hope Ryan Naumann sees a check from this. From the narrator to the stylish flow charts, this really does have a knock-off kinda feel to it. That’s not to say that this short is bad, not by any stretch of the imagination. I just think it needs a little more of a tweak away from Do’s business model before I can really sink my teeth into it.
Beyond the comparisons, the art is nice with a heavy focus on details and bright colors. The voice acting is spot on and is seamlessly edited over the characters. Laughs are plentiful, but truthfully, they’re a bit canned and predictable as well. I went into this with a bit of high hopes but this left me a little underwhelmed.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
