Shorts Review: Jillian & Mark Are Cats Pilot

I was browsing the web when I came across a fun announcement, the creators of Felt Up are also producing another show, a web series to be more precise, based around the relationship antics of two cats, Jillian and Mark. In the pilot, Mark finds a magical world in the cupboard and starts to spend all his time in there and not with Jillian watching stupid internet videos. The best part about Jillian & Mark and at the same time Felt Up was how they packaged really quite straight-forward humour and mixed it with an abnormal coat of paint.

In Felt Up that abnormality came from the creative puppet designs and the surreal embarrassing sex stories, and in Jillian & Mark, thanks to it not being based on true stories, has the creative puppets and outrageous fantastical story lines to use. The puppets themselves are just the right mixture of weird and oddly adorable, making their dry delivery in their dialogue especially hilarious. While I think I’ll wait another episode just to see if Jillian and Mark will truly stand up as a series, as a pilot this laid out exactly what it wanted to convey and gave a pretty firm idea of what we’ll get each episode. In the end Jillian & Mark Are Cats is definitely worth a watch.
