Review: Regular Show “Journey to the Center of the Crash Pit”
Spoilers!
Benson tasks Muscle Man, Mordecai, Fives, and Rigby to fill in a sinkhole, that they dubbed the Crash Pit. While they’re standing around the pit, they reminisce about all of the fun times, and the vehicles that ended up inside the pit. So, Muscle Man gets Mordecai, Rigby and Fives revved up for one last crash into the pit. Fives rents out a camcorder so they can record the final crash. Everyone jumps out at the last second, and is safe. Unfortunately, they forgot the camcorder inside the car. So, they go to Thomas, who tells them Benson needs the camcorder for his parents wedding vow-renewal, and find out that the camcorder is worth $5000. So,the group rents out some climbing gear. Mordecai, Rigby, Fives, and Muscle Man make their way down to the bottom of the pit, and they see the car graveyard they created throughout the years of crashing cars. While they’re down in the pit, Benson and Pops find that nothing has been done to the pit. He realizes that the pit is really deep, so he tells Skips to go to plan B.
Rigby starts wigging out because he doesn’t like cramped spaces, but the group gets alarmed when they hear Rigby’s screaming from the crash. They hear laughter from the other side of a wall controlled by a stick shift. They open the wall, and see a group of people that call themselves the Carlocks. They think that all of the stuff that fell into the Crash Pit were gifts from God, and they don’t want to give up the Camcorder. Rigby attacks the Lord of the Carlocks, who drops the camcorder. They grab it, and make their way to Ol’ Toluca, and ride their way up the Crash Pit. With Thomas at the controls of the excavator, and Skips incoming with a truck of dirt, Benson starts to fill in the hole. Mordecai dodges the Carlocks, and incoming dirt, with only the Carlock Lord left. He jumps on just in time to get hit with a dump truck full of dirt as the gang make it out of the crash pit with the camcorder. In a moment of lucidity, Benson actually seems grateful that they risked their lives to get the camcorder back.
What do fast cars, good metal riffs, and the Regular Show crew add up to? This adds up to a missed opportunity for Journey 2. You know, that terrible movie with the Rock? I hope we see more of the Carlocks, because they were funny. They fit the trope of “underground hermit” rather well. This episode was pretty well written, and even more of a return to form, because there was centralization. Thank God, because we need more episodes like these. This is starting to feel like the older seasons, and trust me, that is definitely not a bad thing. I’m really digging Rigby becoming more skiddish and wigging out more, because it fits the description of a raccoon as well. Catch this wherever you can, because you should enjoy it.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
