Review: American Dad “Introducing the Naughty Stewardesses”

Spoilers Below

While at an airport on a romantic getaway, Stan and Francine meet four voluptuous stewardesses who are more than meets the eye. No, they aren’t Transformers, but they do appear to be the show’s version of the Charlie’s Angels. Full of puns and stories of sexual conquest, the stewardesses have Stan and Francine hanging on their every word. When Dallas Maverick’s owner, Mark Cuban, appears at the airport, he takes one of the foxy ladies off for a weekend in Monte Carlo. With a spot to fill, the stewardesses have Stan and Francine join their team. While on a flight, the team learns about a diabolical plot, and Mark Cuban seems to be the prime suspect.

Meanwhile, Steve is once again having girl troubles. With the Winter Harvest coming up, and his love interest newly single, it seems to be the perfect opportunity to ask her out. But poor Steve just can’t seem to muster up the words. Steve’s sorrow becomes apparent to Roger during a card game, and the clever alien comes up with a way to ask her out for him. Roger reveals space technology that allows him to switch faces with Steve. This is probably one of the creepiest things to ever happen on American Dad, but nobody was able to tell the difference. The problems arise when Roger develops feelings for the girl, and doesn’t want to trade back faces. A scary secret may just change his mind…

“Introducing the Naughty Stewardesses” was an interesting episode. The two stories offered different forms of entertainment. While Stan and Francine were on a raunchy spy adventure, Steve and Roger were dealing with a more grounded and relatable situation…except for maybe the face swapping. Of the two, I enjoyed Steve and Roger’s half a little better. Every time Roger is speaking, I’m all ears. He is easily my favourite character and his antics reach awesome levels this episode. There were also a handful of excellent guest stars this episode including three very lovely ladies: Gillian Jacobs, Olivia Wilde, and Becki Newton. They all did very well.

While the episode had me invested from beginning to end, I didn’t find this episode very funny. There was a chuckle here and there, but overall this episode only provoked feelings of happiness, and there is nothing wrong with that. I had a lot of fun watching everything unfold and I think this was a pretty good episode to return to American Dad with. Another problem I had with the episode was that this was yet another episode where Steve has a girl trouble, while I get it was approached in a much different manner than other times, I think the face swapping plot device could have been used for better things. I think I’m just a little bored of the girl trouble stories.

Overall, pretty good episode. I enjoyed it quite a bit and I would probably be just as entertained if I watched it again. I enjoyed this episode, but I hope the rest of the season is even better. We need some more jokes, we need fresh ideas for stories, and bring back the face swappers in a season or two and use them to swap Roger and Stan. That could be funny.
