Seven Year Old Girl Starts Grindcore Band With Her Father. And Then They Made A Music Video With Puppets!
We’ve got an early contender for “Father Of The Year.”
I absolutely love niche stories like this. Dad’s a musician. Daughter loves dad’s music. Dad starts a band with daughter. They sign a record deal and start putting out music vids. It’s kinda like how we got Axe Cop, but with more metal and, hopefully, less actual chopping off of heads. But it is grindcore, so let’s not make assumptions on the brutality.
I’ll be honest with you, this song is really fucking killer. First and foremost they sample the theme from Freakazoid. That’s an instant win in my book right there. Joanie’s vocals can get a bit screechy at times, but I had to keep reminding myself that she’s only 7. If she stays healthy, keeps practicing and really enjoys the craft I could see her being compared to Angela Gossow of Arch Enemy a little down the road.
Now let’s dive into the actual video, shall we?
You guys listen to Between The Buried And Me? I do. The odd timing and key signatures really drew me to them a few years back and I’ve been jogging awkwardly to them ever since. They put out a music vid a few years back for their song Mordecai (Yup, that was a name before Regular Show was a show) that had an interesting and partially animated aspect to it. This music video is reminiscent of Mordecai, except with puppets taking on the roles of the Barbie and Ken doll in the BTBAM video. So if we took that video and meshed it with some of the puppetry/insanity we’ve seen in some of the special features of Aqua Teen Hunger Force, we’d have a basic understanding of what Sockweb has offered us.
It’s really nice to see a father who will go to any lengths to expose their child to what they enjoy. After doing a bit of research I came across a piece that said he would pull the plug on the band if her vocal cords were being harmed in any way. That right there shows that he’s not in this for the novelty or the money, but for the memories and times he’ll share with his kid. We should all apply a little bit of that logic to our own lives, especially if we have impressionable little ones around. Expose them to what they want to explore, but do it responsibly and within reason. Ice Cream for dinner might not be the best idea (until you hit college) but let them live a little. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got a song to go jam out to.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
