If you’re a film fan, you probably know what today is! That’s right! Earlier this morning the Oscar nominations were announced. The most prestigious award you can win in the industry! Anybody who gets into film dreams of winning one of bad boys. Over the next few months you’re going to be hearing a lot about great films such as ’12 Years a Slave’ and ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’, but if you’ve been on this site before, I’m sure you know we deal in animation. This year was a great year for animated features, arguably one of the best years in a while! Animation has grown and evolved over the years, becoming more and more popular. Many of these films have gone from being “child friendly” to “family friendly”. The difference being these films can now entertain audiences of all ages. I’m confident they will just get better and better. I’m sure you’re eager to find out who was nominated! So here are your nominees…

I’ll be straight with you guys and tell you right now… I haven’t seen a single one of these films. I know, I’m sorry. But rest assured I will be seeing every film on this list by the time the Oscars roll around. Since I haven’t seen any of these yet, I can’t say that I have predictions in mind. ‘Frozen’ has been getting a lot of praise and if the Golden Globes are any indication of how the Oscars will turn out, the folks at Disney are smiling. ‘The Wind Rises’ is also from the genius who brought you ‘Spirited Away’, so in my eyes, it’s a serious contender. It’s a tough call, guys.

All of the animated shorts look very interesting. I can’t say much more about them, but I can’t wait to watch each one. I’m glad the academy recognizes these shorts because they really bring a special something to the animated world. You can end up feeling so much through so little. It’s beautiful.

Finally, I’ve listened to all of the songs nominated for best original song and they are all a treat to the ear. This will be my most informed decision so far and I have to give it to Frozen’s “Let it Go”. The love surrounding this film’s score is not surprising. Many of my fellow college peers have checked this movie out and have told me that they left the theater singing. It’s my personal favorite of the four nominees, so it’s an easy choice.

There you have it! These are your nominees. I’m sure all of you have your opinions about who you think will win, and we’d love to hear your thoughts! Let us know in the comments! As for me, I’m going to actually watch these all and perhaps I’ll give you guys an official prediction later on. Enjoy the rest of your week!
