Shorts Review: Losing It With John Stamos featuring Paul Feig
Spoilers Below
What an amusingly awkward episode of Losing It. Paul Feig (the director of Bridesmaids, The Heat, and tons of episodes of great shows like The Office and Arrested Development) has easily won the title of latest bloomer in the show’s brief history. Feig blamed not losing his virginity until age 24 on his awkwardness, which is funny, because although almost every guest before him also claimed to be awkward as a teen, Paul is the only one that is truly believable. Not just because of how he acts now, but because he backed it up with stories and evidence!
Feig described that in his younger years he lusted after girls, but approached it oddly by giving them presents and then shying away. He also talked about obtaining Playboys as a kid, and because he didn’t have access to any porn videos, he didn’t know sex involved thrusting or movement. Though I must say, I find that hard to believe. The guy is 51 years old; he’s not ancient. Didn’t he see it in mainstream R-rated movies before age 24? Apparently not, since he couldn’t execute the act enough to satisfy himself, and ended up faking an orgasm.
Although that all sounds funny, the key to this whole episode was how Paul Feig told it. The stories were awkward and embarrassing, but instead of giving the audience that uncomfortable feeling, Feig owned up to everything and spun the tales with confidence and loads of self-depreciating humor.
He’s also a genuinely funny guy (I love when he turned to the camera when talking about a past crush and said: “I love you still; give me the necklace back.”) as well as a charming guest.
And as a host, John Stamos had some pretty funny jokes and lines as well. Like his mini-rant about how schools should teach more useful subjects.
Oh yeah, and there were puppets. Again!
So, this wasn’t one of the funniest installments of Losing It, but it was still quite entertaining, in that embarrassingly awkward, super-honest way. Hey, kind of like Paul Feig’s movies.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
