Review: Mother Up! ‘Shoe I Am’

Spoilers Below
Rudi is slowly but surely becoming a mother and it’s starting to show as she stills try to grasp onto a struggling music career for 2Bit even WITH Snowball’s help. Rudi starts to fear she’s losing her swagger when she starts to miss out on all the looks dudes used to shoot towards her and decides to sport these shiny ass shoes whilst taking her kids to school. Most of the mothers know NOTHING about fashion like this, and are struck in awe when they get a load of Rudi’s fashion history. Jenny uses this opportunity to fuck with Dick while Rudi tens to Sarah’s marital troubles. Turns out Sarah is fearing that her husband is having an affair and moreover 2Bit needs help in writing a new song. Unfortunately, someone steals all of Rudi’s shows..but who?
We find out that Jenny had Dick go through his mom’s closet for the expensive shoes all for a CHARITY DRIVE! Yep, all her shoes are gone and they are going to the poor. Dick raised the most money at the Drive, but Rudi really needs her shoes back so she leaves the kids by themselves at home and 2Bit takes her to the school to cross reference the security footage with his face recognition app. They find a bunch of the culprits and take off. Next door neighbor Greg comes up into the kids’ room to try and help them escape from their room, but he’s really no help. The Shoe trio heads to Crack Avenue and begin tracking down all of Rudi’s shoes. Greg’s planning revenge against a supposed witch, but when Rudi tries to round up the last batch of shoes they get a knife pulled on ’em.
Rudi, Sarah, and 2Bit outsmart the gang and take off with their shoes, but they need Rudi’s Jimmy’s. Problem is this dude is a shoe store owner and he isn’t letting the shoes go without a high price. The ‘fee’ gets paid and Rudi heads home where 2Bit becomes inspired to write more music and Sarah gets the shoes to impress her husband. Back at school, Rudi shows Jenny how being a bitch REALLY works.
Rudi ends up writing a song for 2Bit and he plays us out on Crack Avenue with the knife gang and their crazy neighbors.
Okay, okay, Mother Up! is definitely starting to heat things up a bit in the laughs department. Eva’s jokes/dialogue is starting to become a lot more varied and spicy relying less on crass humor that is frowned upon on Hulu and more on jokes that just HIT hard. Ok, so Creed jokes are kind of dated, but still funny. And I think jokes about sex is still a rather untapped marketplace in the world of animated television with really only Archer going that route. I also really enjoyed the growth of Greg and furthermore I think he could be a BIG player in this show and as a result I think he should be used more. Also? MARK MCKINNEY is in this show! That alone should be a reason you start watching because he’s just the best. Also, watch out Chozen, because 2Bit’s got some pretty sick jams, too. Mother Up! still needs to tighten up the screws in the plot/antagonist part of the series, but it’s getting better.
