Review: Dragons Defenders of Berk “Worst in Show”

Spoilers Ahead!

The episode starts with Alvin under Berk assessing Night Terror situation. After strongarming one of his minions, they lay a plan to take the Dragon Training Academy over. Meanwhile, we get another training scenario from the crew dealing with rescue scenarios. Snotlout and Hookfang have a slight problem trying to rescue a dummy. Apparently, going underwater and setting the dummy on fire is a bad thing. Snotlout is steamed because no one thinks he is doing well. After a bit of going back and forth, they devise a competition to see who the best trainer is. They grab a terrible terror and get a day to train it. Alvin’s crew is still down under Berk.

Fishlegs is trying to name his Terrible Terror, but Meatlug wants to play toss the sheep. Fishlegs is too busy, so she plays by herself. Meatlug looks rather neglected. At the Academy, the not competition begins, with everyone training their Terrible Terrors well. Alvin looks on as Fishlegs schools Snotlout. Meatlug smells Alvin on top of the academy and goes after him. She gets caught by Alvin, with Hiccup and Toothless not able to help much. Fishlegs feels terrible because he tried winning at the expense of spending time with Meatlug. The gang leaves their Terrible Terrors on the ship, to wreak havoc on Alvin and his crew so they can save Meatlug. They end up destroying Alvin’s ship, and Meatlug is returned to Fish legs.

This episode, while very good, was very run of the mill. I just feel like this has been done before. Everything from Fishlegs wanting to win and be useful, to Snotlout trying to be the alpha dude, it all fees like it has been done before. It’s getting to the point where I would love something to start out the episode besides a training montage. The show is starting to get formulaic, And I don’t like that.
