Review: American Dad ‘Kung Pao Turkey’

Mmmmm....nachos.
Mmmmm….nachos.

Spoilers Below

Stan is excited to watch thanksgiving football in his underwear, until he finds out Francine’s parents are coming for dinner.

And when Bah Bah Ling disrupts the television signal while trying to improve the picture, keeping Stan and Klous from watching the many hours of useless blabber leading up to the big game, Stan concocts a plan to get them out of the house.

While waiting for the Nerd Squad to show up and fix the television, Stan makes many botched attempts at exploiting the stereotypical fears of Chinese people.

From acting as the ghost of Genghis Khan to letting a panda bear loose in the house and even using swine flu as a scare tactic.

But the funniest attempt is when Stan dresses up as Godzilla. It was a perfect example of the uncultured father’s ignorance, since Godzilla is a Japanese film.

It’s the little things like this that make American Dad! so great.

Meanwhile, Ma Ma Ling helps Hayley get over Jeff by making her throw away all his possessions, then tries to hook her up with a new man named Big Wang Bai.

Although, after creeping Big Wang’s Facebook page, Ma Ma realizes she wants Big Wang all to herself. After Hayley invites Big Wang over for dinner, Ma Ma makes an ass of herself.

Big Wang eventually denies Hayley, only to hook up with Roger. But what did you expect from someone who wears Ralph Lauren and drives a Segway?

After Stan realizes his attempts are futile, he believes he lost his home and compares himself to “an Indian” and the Lings to pilgrims. He leaves the household and wanders the city aimlessly, eventually befriending a Texan family parked outside the Redskins FedExField. He then has a moment, realizing Cowboy and Redskins fans can share a meal, so can Stan and Francine’s parents.

Stan realizes the true meaning of Thanksgiving – something all too common in American Dad! lately. It’s a play on many Christmas specials that the series has adopted as a weekly gag, or just a quick cop out when the writer’s are coming up with a third act closer.
