FXX lands ‘The Simpsons’

Things have been rather depressing as of late for FXX, the new network spin-off of FX Networks. Last week, it was announced that Chozen would be jumping from FXX to FX to team with Archer on Monday Nights and just this week the network cancelled Totally Biased. But, it looks as though FXX execs knew something that we didn’t because the young network just completed a $750 million deal that will see The Simpsons’ 530-episode library debut on FXX in August 2014 with another 44-episodes being added to that number in September 2015. That’s because Season 25 of The Simpsons will be on FXX when Season 26 starts on FOX, a trend that will continue as each new season of The Simpsons airs.
Moreover, the deal is rather huge because of what it means for the FXNOW digital spin-off of the FX Networks, and in an excerpt from Deadline.com that in it of itself is a big deal:
“This is a historic deal for FXX and FX Networks and I don’t believe there will ever be another one like it,” Saftler said. Besides the sheer volume, unprecedented is the granting of full VOD/non-linear rights to a cable network in conjunction with an off-network agreement, which normally gives nets rolling 5-6 episodes. In this case, FXNOW, the soon-to-be-launched authenticated mobile viewing app of FX Networks, will offer all seasons of The Simpsons that are available on FXX. As for that staggering volume of 574 episodes and counting, while a typical syndicated show that has produced 100 episodes is on a 5-week repeat cycle, meaning that the cable network goes through all of the episodes in 5 weeks after which it starts again from the pilot, it will be months and months before The Simpsons will have to repeat an episode on FXX, giving it a feel of original run.
The Simpsons still have a bunch more episodes for this season, and there’s a new one on deck Sunday Night @ 9:00pm EST, check your local listings!
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
