Shorts Review: Losing It with John Stamos featuring Alan Cumming

Did anyone watch the season premiere of Saturday Night Live last week? If not, don’t worry, you didn’t miss much. Although the always-lovely & hilarious Tina Fey hosted, the show’s new cast failed to fill the shows of recently departed cast members Fred Armisen, Bill Hader, and Jason Sudeikis. Not that the show was rocking it last season either, but I digress. If you DID happen to watch, you may have noticed that the Weekend Update segment mentioned John Stamos’ new Yahoo! web show. You may have also noticed that they incorrectly identified the show’s name as Losing Your Virginity with John Stamos, which was the original – but not current – moniker for the series. Nice reporting, SNL writers. After that comments it’s not out of line to ask Saturday Night Live for a job, is it? What’s that? It is? Okay, nevermind.

In the Alan Cumming episode, Stamos interviewed the bi-sexual Cumming (gee, maybe I should’ve worded that differently) who had the best story in an episode thus far. Cumming’s girl-swapping first time story was engaging, and the back-and-forth between Stamos and him flowed well throughout the show. It even had a cartoon in the middle; and isn’t that why were all really here? The story finished (during the bit about him “finishing”) with a long string of words that were apparently too much for the Yahoo! censors. Although I wish I was a better lip reader and could know what Cumming actually said, the hilarity of having it entirely bleeped is probably more humorous than whatever the statement was. Or maybe not. Maybe the dirty sentence was a screamer; a real knee-slapper; something so foul I can’t even begin to comprehend it. What if it contains a new dirty word that’s so offensive that it would tear apart the very fabric of society to hear it? Oh well.

Despite not being as big of a fan of Alan Cumming as I am of Michael Rapaport and Matt Stone, this episode was the best so far.
