Review: South Park ”Informative Murder Porn”

The episode opens up with Wendy giving a speech to the class about Syria’s refugees with Cartman booing in the background.  Again, Matt Stone and Trey Parker bring current events into the show.  Awesome.  This is quickly halted when Peter dramatically introduces an epidemic known as “Murder Porn”.  He RIPS into the ID Channel calling it all garbage and explains, to no contest, why.

Stan walks into his house only to find his parents getting frisky to murder porn.  Stan quickly exits the room and we see him wake up in his bed to a disturbing phone call.  School friend Aaron’s dad killed his mom.

With a congregation of all the students, they figure out a way to block these shows.  Randy freaks out when he receives a parental control block that Stan implemented.  Him and the other parents travel to the cable company (with a logo surprisingly close to Time Warner Cable) to try to remove the block.  When told that he would have to wait for a technician from 6am-3pm all of November the parents have no choice but to pursue a different route.  They approach a child named Corey to see if he is willing to teach Minecraft to adults.  He reluctantly agrees with a bribe of 100oz of silver.

The next day at school, the gang finds out all their parents have learned how to play Minecraft.  Stan comes to the conclusion that a kid must be teaching them.  With all the parents now taking Minecraft too seriously and acting out on it, the gang confronts Corey and catches him in the act.  Corey responds by telling them that it’s not his doing and they need to confront the cable company.  They do just that.

The employees at the cable company constantly rub each other’s nipples and talk down to the gang by telling them they can’t just pick and choose what channels they get and they need to purchase a package.  With obvious references to Time Warner Cable, the president announces that any person wanting the channels with murder porn must now be purchased for a higher cost.

Distained, Randy returns home with Sharon and brings her into the world of Minecraft.  Sharon turns around and kills Randy in the game.  They then realize they can get their rocks off by killing each other.  Their murder porn has returned.

One thing in this episode that I didn’t include were the short running jokes throughout.  Cartman is constantly booing Wendy every time she speaks a word, even if it’s positively referencing him and it is hilarious.  I am amazed again at the underlying truths that South Park spits out in such comedic and informative ways.  To answer my first question; Yes.  This episode did live up to the hype (even if it was my own hype).  I love you South Park and I want your babies.  Don’t divorce me, though.  If you do, I will watch enough murder porn to take you down and get away with it.
