Comics Review: Futurama #69

Not gonna lie, I am a fan of Human on Seussian cat violence. Read about it after the jump!

Mom is getting a check up at Dr. Cat in the Hat, because she has 17 days to live because of her heart. He can’t stop rhyming, so Mom shoves his hat down his throat. She goes to her cryogenic lab to harvest a new heart, but the test subject was thawed out. It turns out to be Fry! Mom crashes an award ceremony at Planet Express, and awards Fry an internship so she can keep him out of harm’s way and keep him alive. Over time, she treats him like her own, and offers the company to her when she dies. Fry thinks it over while Mom went back to Dr. Cat in the Hat. He says that her heart is healthier than ever, and she has another 50 years to live.

So,She comes back, and orders her 3 kids to put Fry back in the freezer. They drive him back to Planet Express, and kicks him out. They save him for saving Mom. For that, Fry gives them some advice when it comes to Mom. She is still feeling down, and her kids go to hug her.

This story was pretty good. it takes a little bit to get going, but once it does, things go off. I thought the expansion of Mom, from using Fry for his heart, to having actual feelings and borderline admiring of him, shows a bit of growth. Most characters need to sides to themselves, because villains shouldn’t be villains all the time. This story was very unexpected, but the surprise added to the charm. Finally, the chemistry between Mom and Fry is something you don’t see very often in this comic. Good job, Bongo.
