Shorts Reviews: Sports Friends ‘Football’
Spoilers Below
After a nice weekend of watching Week 3 NCAA Football and Week 2 NFL Football, it made perfect since to dive into the five football-themed episodes of Sports Friends.
Unfortunately, the first episode I watched featured Peyton Manning and Wes Welker. Don’t get me wrong, the episode was pretty damn funny, but after just watching Manning, Welker, and the Broncos lay a bitch-slap on my Giants this past Sunday, it was a pinch of salt in my still-healing wound. Regardless, hearing Welker fondly recall his time with former teammate Tom Brady – whom, according to him, “can’t lose” – was funny. As was Peyton’s mumbling retort of “I mean, he did lose those last two championships…” and his name mishap at the end. Definitely worth a watch.
The Alex Smith & Colin Kaepernick was next, and it was amusing as well. Not as good as the previous episode, but it did have a similar awkwardness. Maybe even a little bit awkward.
Watching Matt Ryan getting babied by his ginormous offensive lineman was pretty funny too, and the Jay Cutler/Brandon Marshall one was even funnier. Cutler claiming that field goals, basketball, and defense (football defense) are boring to him, was great, as was Brian Urlacher’s appearance. Although it was a bit odd seeing the currently-retired Urlacher back on the field for some reason (long animation turnaround?) he still had a great closing line. I must’ve watched him stare oddly at the camera and say, “I always hit it into the net,” at least six times.
The best line, however, came from the Joe Flacco/Ray Rice episode. I won’t repeat it here, but let’s just say it was borderline anti-Semitism delivered with complete innocence.
I think the fact that I like the game of baseball a bit more than football might tip the scales between the different sports’ Sports Friends episodes, but I’m going to give them a slight edge over this group of episodes, and proclaim baseball the winner.
Next week: Basketball!
@Gonzo_Green Will. Go. All. The. Way.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
