Review: The Awesomes ‘Pageant’

Spoilers Below

Something is going on with Hotwire as she seems to be making phone calls to shady people…but enough about that because Frantic is getting to judge a beauty pageant! At first Prock isn’t crazy about the idea, but Hottie talks him into it and as such the whole team goes to the pageant in support of their team member…except oddly enough Hotwire. When they get to the pageant the organizer convinces Frantic to be a contestant rather than a judge. Prock even calls Hotwire to check in on her, but from the looks of it she is up to NO good!

While Frantic does his thing on stage, Muscle Man eventually figures out the whole beauty pageant is bull shit, but when he tries to bring it to Prock’s attention he kind of just shrugs it off. Eventually, Frantic is asked by the host of the pageant to show off his speedy prowess, but when he does he burns a hole in the ground and collapses the entire stage. Turns out, this whole thing WAS a setup and the Gopher King was behind it all! Turns out the Gopher King has a plan to Till the Earth and make it habitable for his army of large gophers using a large gun. Prock wants to call Hotwire for help, but Muscle Man thinks that is a bad idea.

Muscle Man and the rest of the team start fighting the gophers so that they can stop the large gun from going off, so Prock decides to call Hotwire to get into a secret vault to get a weapon that can help give the Awesomes the upper hand.

Hotwire indeed finds the special weapon that Prock needs and she teleports it to where the big battle is going down. He shoots the big gun which causes the Gopher King to shrink. However, Muscle Man comes out of the battle thinking that Prock doesn’t trust him so he turns in his ring and quits the team. Oh yea, and Hotwire’s dad is MALOCCHIO! BOOM!!

A CRAZY week on The Awesomes and the bigger picture is starting to get clearer here. On top of the fact this episode was the funniest one of the season featuring the Gopher King whom had SO MANY great one-liners that it is worth it for you to watch this episode JUST for that. We also had one of the better large scale battles of the season as well and was drawn/animated rather well by Bento Box as we basically got a depiction of the battle in the background. The real winner here is the power of having an animated series that wants me to tune in each and every week. Even if I didn’t like the series, I would at the very least would have to finish it for the purpose of completion. However, I do like this show, its ideas and motives are progressive and the series is rethinking the animated series for the modern world. Hotwire’s betrayal was somewhat expected after the first scene which took some of the sting out of the twist, but its still an idea that played out rather well the last few weeks.

However, I REALLY LIKE MUSTARD!!!
