Review: The Awesomes ‘Pilot Episode Part 2’
Spoilers Below
At the end of the pilot and starting with this episode we meet a big huge garbage monster. This is The Awesomes first shot at showing the world what it can do. At first, some of the guys have a problem in working together, but soon they start to work together and build a formidable unit…that is until Perfect Man shows up, stops the monster, and takes all of the credit.
Eventually, the new superhero team gets a chance to meet the world on Superhero Now but super villain Dr. Malocchio comes on the show and shows everyone that he’s reformed by curing a villain named Freezer Burn of his villainous ways. With that, Dr. Malocchio announces on TV that he plans to rid the world of super powers! Unfortunately, Joyce wants The Awesomes to add another hero or they go out of business so they decide to hold auditions. After a while, they get to the last try-out that being Hotwire a chick who can control electricity and maybe has stolen Prock’s heart. Unfortunately, Joyce comes by and threatens to shut down their operation due to the fact that the lead Awesome got a bunch of rejected heroes to join his team. Thankfully, the Animal Kingdom shows up the start shit.
The little minions end up placing a bomb inside of a nuclear reactor that is used to power the Awesomes’ HQ, but Prock is ale to show Joyce that he really does have the best team and as such is able to capture the Animal Kingdom and lock them up! Joyce is impressed and agrees to put funding back into The Awesomes as part of a 6 month probation. We also find out that Hotwire is dating Perfect Man to which Prock seems kind of upset about. But, it’s cool as long as we have beef jerky!
For YEARS Saturday Night Live really hasn’t been funny, but the show has produced funny people. Guys like Bill Hader, Will Forte, and Jason Sudeikis are all examples of cast members able to successfully transition into the world of film and TV. This series feels like a hodge-podge of different SNL casts like Seth Meyers, Rachel Dratch, and Kenan Thompson but I feel like we are still settling in to what could be a rather funny show. Similar to SNL, the cast is looking to work together to make a funny series, but in order to do that these guys should take note that their show is on Hulu and not on broadcast TV and as such should exploit that. For example, don’t bleep out curse words…its the internet…don’t censor it. But, that has always been the SNL way, let’s keep it safe. This is why I always preferred MADtv growing up because that show was not afraid to start shit and seeing former cast mates of that show come out and help make a show like Family Guy that is fearless has proven dividends.
This series, needs to grow a set, and then we can talk about Hulu REALLY challenging TV. Not saying it couldn’t happen later, but it isn’t happening this week.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
