Review: Phineas and Ferb: “Love at First Byte”

If there was one show I was not looking towards reviewing, it was this. Does this episode do anything at all to change my opinion? Find out after the jump!

Before I start, I want to tell everyone how much I hate formulaic shows. And by formulaic, I mean, I can watch one episode, and tell you the basic plot of every episode. With the exception of the slightest of changes, this episode is the exact same. Alright, so with that said, let’s get this going.

Phineas and Ferb’s parents are planning for a block party. When it’s said that Linda couldn’t handle getting the fireworks finale, Phineas and Ferb take charge of the laser light show finale. Candace tries hard to bust them, but with what seems like their mom’s blessing, she is in an unstable situation. Meanwhile, Perry is sent on a mission to spy on Doofenshmirtz, at the block party. Instead of letting Perry go as the family pet, he is disguised as a balloon animal. That’s smart, really. Speaking of the idiot, Doofenshmirtz brings his more moronic robot with him, Norm. Did anyone ever notice that this robot sounds like the Moviefone guy? I just needed to point that out. Is Moviefone even still around?

Norm, at the advice of the idiot doctor, awkwardly challenges Chloe, a female robot, to a dance-off. The Flaser fires off without a hitch, and the musical number that ensues is actually pretty good. Unfortunately, that all changes when Norm’s head flies off during the dance-off, causing the flaser the kids built to shoot off into space, causing the lights to show over half the world. Then the bass drops into a terrible dubstep song. Why does every medium now have to include horrendous dubstep? Please, Disney, can we get some more on one of your record labels? I’m asking because we all know that we don’t have enough. Thankfully, this is almost over. We find out that Doofenshmirtz actually did go to the party to have fun. Also, Phineas and Ferb get busted by Mom for dirty towels. Completely screwing Candace in her life goal.

Ok, there’s a pain, and then there’s stubbing your toe. Then there’s breaking a toe. Then there’s watching Phineas and Ferb. Do you remember when I said this show is formulaic? Here’s the formula. The kids get left alone with the sister. Kids start to build, and the sister goes to bust them. The pet gets the mission to stop an idiot. The kids manage to escape getting busted by a series of fortunate incidents. Perry stops the moron. Kids finish building and break down everything before Candace busts them for doing whatever they were doing. Congratulations. I just made it so you don’t have to watch another episode of Phineas and Ferb. The only enjoyable thing was the robot dance-off and the music that accompanied it. And to think, these characters are going to not only be in a Marvel crossover but crap all over Star Wars. The only reason this episode doesn’t get a one is that that musical number was cool.
