Review: The Looney Tunes Show ‘Best Friends Redux’

 Spoilers Below

Bugs has an old friend of his Rodney Rabbit in town and Daffy is all sorts of jealous because he thought that HE was the best friend. To prove it Daffy tells this BS story about him and Bugs serving in battle, but Bugs tells the real story of how they met. Bugs and Rodney however have all sorts of good stories to tell much to the chagrin of Daffy. Porky isn’t even in the top 5 of Daffy’s best friends, so not sure what the big deal is.

Daffy later decides to make Porky his best friend to try and get Bugs jealous and Porky gets on board because he gets a promotion out of it from Daff. The duck comes up with a plan to deny an invite to the movies when the rabbits ask, but it really doesn’t work so Porky just leaves. Daffy decides to go over the Witch’s house, but despite her orders, he gets zapped into this time-travel portal to when Bugs and Rodney first met. The son of a bitch gets on the bus and tells Rodney he can’t join the summer camp where he met Bugs so guess what? They haven’t met. Little Porky follows Daffy home and drops him off at adult Porky’s house. When Daffy gets back home, he finds that no one in town knows who he is, not even Bugs. Eventually, the Witch finds Daffy and tells him what he did so Daffy transports back to chase down the bus that is bringing Rodney home. At first, Rodney tells Daffy that he didn’t want to be a part of the camp anyway, but Daffy talks some sense to him and Rodney decides to rejoin Bugs back at camp. Daffy has one last task however, to get Little Porky and send him to his original destination!

When Daffy brings lil Porky back in time, he sends them to the same cabin as the rabbits as opposed to his original cabin and that’s a wrap!

Rodney is a cool dude and as such I hope we see him more. The overall premise of the episode was rather well-written with jokes that were just funny, funny. Daffy’s list was a good start, but the time travel deal was very much unexpected, but it worked so well and it did a great job following the rules of time travel that I was convinced the dudes who wrote Looper came in as consultants. The Merrie Melodies was kind of stinky, but the episode as a whole was a bunch of fun that definitely should be watched.
