Review: Venture Bros “O.S.I. Love You”

vbs5

The promos built this episode up pretty good, saying anything outside of a 2 second snippet of Brock entering a doorway was too much of a spoiler. Does it live up to the week of hype? Well, it definitely didn’t disappoint me. Of course, SPOILERS AHEAD!

Somewhere on the Indian Ocean, we see OSI trying to apprehend Monstroso and Molotov Cocktail. How does that happen? Well, we’re about to find out. OSI is giving a recounting of what happened when they brought back Monstroso and Molotov. When they get on Brock and Molotov, holy shit, this is the funniest thing ever. The IA investigator, Brock, and General Gathers, blew this up. I was laughing my ass up, straight up. So, the comedy stops for a second, and Monstroso is singing like a bird, telling Brock everything he knows on The Guild of Calamitous Intent. Then we get to how Molotov got out. Way to go, Dean.

Dean tells how he came to busting Monstroso and Mol, but something goes a little awry. Rusty and Dean are touring the ship, and they end up at Rusty’s old lab. The scientist there now, goes into detail about the precogs. In some sort of weird ass Minority Report, their premonitions come from shitting out predictions. They go to how Monstroso “leaves” the ship, thanks to the Guild, and how Molotov survives the chaos of breaking out, and how she got her hands on Hank’s Destiny suit. They go into some seriously screwed up stuff, involving Helper saving Brock from a very messy splat, and what seems like Brock throwing Mol into the engine of the helicarrier. The ending of this is episode is just something you need to see to believe: Molotov ends up getting a new job, and the IA investigators weren’t who everyone thought they were.

Ok, so let me get this out of the way right now. Patrick Warburton had quite possibly his best episode of any show he voiced, including any Family Guy episode. He is what brings Brock to life. This episode solidifies how he is the only one who could be Brock Sampson. When they did the exchange between the IA investigators and Brock, General Gathers, and the Venture clan, it had me rolling on the floor. Later on, we get another “piss yourself laughing” moment with the precogs and them shitting out their prophecies giving us a very tasteful spoof on Minority report. Also, Monstroso is a very huge man, and I love how the Guild took care of him, and made him a non-issue. And the ending?! What kind of crazy shit was that? After all of the build up for an epic confrontation between Molotov and Brock, it gets pushed back for at least a little bit.  This was a fantastic episode, and a definite nominee for any best of list.

Overall: 9.5 / 10
