Review: Venture Bros. “Bot Seeks Bot”
We are gathered here to mourn the loss of Boggles the Clown. No one really cared. Apparently Captain Sunshine did, but he has a rainbow on his chest. What else happened tonight on The Venture Bros? Find out after the jump!
This week had more going on tonight than in most of the previous episodes. With a funeral, supposed gay robots, and Brock Sampson getting shit done, this ends up being a very satisfying episode. Of course, SPOILERS AHEAD!
OSI is trying to piece together the pieces Monstroso gave them before he died while spying on the funeral. They decide to pin Number one in the Guild as Vendata, a former android built by Jonas Venture and current seat holder on the Council of Thirteen. OSI then enlists Ghost Robot to answer the ad so they can spy on the Council. Meanwhile, the Sovereign introduces their new 4th chair person, Phineas Phage. Ghost Robot (dressed as Galacticon) and Vendata end up at Don Hell’s, a guild operated night club. You can tell that poor Brock isn’t used to just sitting back and guiding robots into battle.
Brock is rummaging through his old stuff at Venture, getting a yeti mummy costume for himself, and what ends up being a fruitbat costume for Shore Leave. They make it to Don Hell’s, and blow past Agustus St. Cloud. They get in to get Ghost Robot out, and that’s where the shit goes down. First, the real Galacticon shows up. That prompts Brock and Ghost Robot to go into the bathroom. Vendata gets bum rushed when he goes to find where his date / friend went. Brock rips his armor off, and puts Ghost Robot in the yeti costume.
The episode winds down with Rusty and Billy tied to a Wheel of Torture. Brock tries to save Rusty, but is stopped by an inadvertent save from the Monarch. The end of the episode is a bit of a shocker. Because of the stopped plan from Brock, Ship Wreck left the disco ball half way cut. As Rusty walks to the Monarch to gloat, Rusty is smashed by the huge mirror ball. After the credits, The Sovereign offers Dr. Mrs. The Monarch the chance to replace Vendata as Councilman #1. This turn of events is caught on a spy cam by Phantom Limb, Professor Impossible, and the rest of the Revenge Society.
Ok, you can call me biased, but I really enjoy Brock-centric episodes. Even when he’s doing very little, like the first half of tonight’s episode, he shines. I’ve said it before, but I like it a lot when Rusty and the rest of the Venture team take a back seat to ancillary characters, and this one does not disappoint. Since this was a Brock-centric episode, I was expecting Molotov Cocktease somewhere in this episode, and I am glad that she was left off. That means, no Dean, and no Hank, and no complaints from me.
This episode also showed us how the other side lives a bit. They’re just like the good guys. They follow their own set of rules and hierarchy. And what about Vendata? I loved the friendship / gay robot scenario, and how it rode that line. All in all, this was a good follow up to “O.S.I. Love You.” and a very solid lead in to the season finale. I don’t know if anyone thinks like I am, but this episode leaves the finale wide open. I leave you with this, who in the blue hell, would have had Rusty getting smashed by a mirror ball?
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
