Review: Red vs Blue Season 11 Episode 3

We’re three episodes into the eleventh season of Red vs. Blue, which means we can officially begin making sweeping judgments and generalizations about the show. Although, as The Bible says: “Judge not, lest ye be judged.” Then again, as Chief Wiggum says: “The Bible says a lot of things. Shove her!”

In RvB episode 3, Caboose had an “off day” and was thus excused from Washington’s exercise regiment, much to Tuckers chagrin. It was later revealed that Caboose was depressed because he missed Church.

The Reds were still criticizing the base layout, with Sarge claiming he needs more space to “reflect on my past victories, and contemplate on my nonexistent failures.”

“Is the place called ‘denial’?” Grif quickly responded.

There were numerous one-liners like this that were quite funny; in fact I think each character had at least one – even Wash. Then it dawned on me that in this particular 4-1/2 minute installment, the gang never mentions the crash, or Tex, or anything related to more serious plotlines. No bummers.

As much as I initially thought this meant the episode was lacking in some way, or uncreative, I soon remembered that this is the kind of stuff that made Red vs. Blue great to begin with. Not only that, but it’s this simplicity and emphasis on silly, humorous dialogue that I’ve always liked best. I suppose with the recent seriousness and intricate plot lines I forgot that fact.

So with that, here’s to more of the same!
