Review: Regular Show “Sleep Fighter”

How does night terrors, a flying van, and my aunt all fit into this episode? You have got to read to find out.

Well, while the big boss is away, the workers will…work, actually. On fan sites, when the boss goes somewhere, the site shuts down. Thank the lord Jeebus we aren’t them. Anyway, I’ve spent a bit of time reviewing the comics, and this is the first time I have had the ability to take the reigns on the show. I’ve gone in and out of the show, catching it on the all day marathons Cartoon Network puts on with semi-regularity. Well, here’s the review of Sleep Fighter!

Spoilers Ahead

Mordecai and Rigby get violently woken up by a viscous sleep beat down by none other than Muscle Man.  The next morning, the roommates gang up on him, thinking he did it on purpose. He has no recollection of what’s going on. Like normal, Benson tells everyone to get back to work, because it isn’t a park problem. That all changes when Benson gets messed up at the hands of a sleep fighting Muscle Man. So, of course the gang all try to help him. They do a sleep study on him, with Rigby in a protective suit that they use on police dog training on the outside for protection. That doesn’t go so well, because Muscle Man destroys the camera set up. One of the cameras were dangling over his shoulder to catch all of the beating that Rigby got. The next day, they analyze the video, and see a creepy face in Muscle Man’s sweat. Muscle Man reveals that the face is from a ultra creepy kid’s show that kid sister wanted to watch. He sat through 8 seasons at over 250 hours of the show. He was so creeped out, he saw them whenever he slept.

So, apparently the creators had a long conversation with my aunt, because they used dreamcatchers to fix the dreams. You know, because they sure work well. They put Muscle Man to sleep, and put the dream catcher into position. There were so many of the little creepers, that they broke the dreamcatcher. That’s where Chips brings out his dreamcatcher arsenal. That means, guns, sling shots, and spear guns. Oh, and how can I forget the huge dream catcher attached to the undercarriage of the van? It caught the mega creeper.

This episode was pretty good.  Words cannot describe how appreciative I was with the over-the-top use of the dreamcatchers. I have an aunt who believes in it, so naturally, she thinks everyone should. This episode is going to be a permanent fixture for that alone. As for the story, I thought it was an original take on the “Sleep-X” story, because you got sleepwalking, sleepworking, and sitcoms even tackled sleep sex. This is the first time I’ve ever seen sleep fighting. I loved the premise. I also liked the fact that Muscle Man got an episode to be the main focus. I haven’t seen any before, so it’s a fresh surprise.

Overall: 7.5/10
