“Adventure on Bigfoot Mountain”
Oh, little Monty Burns, what would make you think you can frolic with the common folk? He buys the 1919 Chicago White Sox, who was on sale because of the 1919 Black Sox scandal. He uses them to annihilate the kids at baseball. All of the kids hate him, except for little Sue. She invites him to go camping with the kids. Unfortunately, Burns doesn’t know when to turn off the money fountain, and shows up in his autogyro. He tells a story that doesn’t impress the others, and he feels left out. He’s asleep, and the kids get kidnapped, with only foot prints left. Burns goes searching for them, and finds the bigfoot’s city of gold. He pushes Smithersbury into a female, and runs. He actually feels remorse after a while, and brings an army with him. But it sure wasn’t for the kids, it was for the gold. Sue tries to talk him out of it, but he tells her it’s going to happen. This starts the trend of Burns screwing people, for money.
“Release the Hounds”
It’s college level Burns! He is getting chastised again, this time by country club patrons. Monty tries to go on the fox hunt with the guys, but the patrons only chastise him. They stick him with Nipper, who is the runt of the litter. After a thought bubble involving Papa Burns, Monty is set on revenge. He uses Nipper and a bullhorn to get the hunters off the fox, and onto a trap Burns laid. The horses get scared into the pool, where Burns filled it with quick-setting gelatin. Lo and behold, it was a motivational story for the newest generation of Nippers. This happened just in time, because Flanders was at the door, and Burns doesn’t do church donations.
“Mr. Burns to the Rescue”
Who washes Mr. Burns, releases the hounds, and fixes dinner when Smithers isn’t around? No one, of course. So, Burns tries to remember where he was. Turns out, Burns sent Smithers to the basement, to find a left-handed bacon stretcher. It turns out, it’s a family heirloom. After a funny moment involving Burns in a Robin costume, he passes some skeletons, ghost pirates, a giant spider fighting a Hobbit, goblins, and the Devil (who’s name is Rupert.) So, Burns finds Smithers, in a hanging cage, about to get chopped by a minotaur. The minotaur almost swings at Burns, until he realizes it’s in fact, Burns. The minotaur timidly searches for the bacon stretcher, and all is well with Mr. Burns.
“Mr. Burns Bears it All”
Smithers is so cute. He is so enamored with the tales of Burns in his more younger years. This tale is how he killed off a polar bear to be stuffed and mounted. If Smithers wasn’t a blind buffoon, he would have seen the price tag on the tail.
Mr. Burns has to be my favorite character in The Simpsons. I was a late bloomer when it came to The Simpsons, but I don’t consider myself a fan, I just enjoy it if and when it’s on. But the episodes I first watched, were rather monumental. Those were the Who Shot Mr. Burns episodes. Yes, it was an homage to Dallas, but I thought everything about those two episodes were masterful, even at an early age.
Now that that history lesson is over, let’s get to the comic. I really enjoyed this comic! They could have taken the easy route, and do another tired “Mr. Burns tries to terrorize the town,” plot. But instead, the two main stories give insight to his younger years. This hasn’t been really explored in the show, which makes this a great avenue to explore in comic form. You rarely, if ever, see Burns as a kid, nor do you really see Smithersbury. And a teenage / college age Mr. Burns really hasn’t seen either. But it is great to see what molded Burns into the evil billionaire he is today.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
