So, it seems like the relationship flavor of liquid plot is being used tonight. This episode was just awkward right out of the gate. The on again / off again relationship between Leela and Fry is back on, and they are laying it on thick to the co-workers. They get broken up at Planet Express by a gawking Scruffy, so they go for a walk. After they almost get mugged by Bender, they end up at the restaurant where Zoidberg is bussing tables. They make it back to Leela’s, where they get busted up by Nibbler, and targeted advertising for a getaway resort. After Leela tells Fry she went there once with an ex, they decide to go.. I smell a plot hook! While Bender is loading the ship with old cars for Simian 7, Leela and Fry tell them they are going on vacation. They make it to the resort, where everything is automated. They enjoy their walk, and after letting Wingus and the Ping Pong Boys out, their time is interrupted by Sean, Leela’s ex-boyfriend. It took the cancellation of the show to finally bring Sean into the show.

Sean is trying to finagle his way back into Leela’s life. After the ultimate bitch move of ditching Fry for her ex and drinks, Fry is left feeding the mosquitos. After dropping off the cars for their tires, Amy gets hit on by a baboon, and we see Guenter!  Back to the bitch and what seems like the hippie. Sean is working hard to get back in Leela’s pants, while Fry is looking on in a jealous rage. After the worst fight ever, Sean’s wife shows up, exchanges terrible insults with Leela, then leaves. Meanwhile, back at Simian 7, Gunther is showing Amy, Zoidberg and Bender around, giving them a history and a look of Simian life. Back again to the awkward twosome of Leela and Fry, and they finally get some alone time. Well, they think it’s alone time. it’s actually the flashes from the cameras on Simian 7! Fry and Leela are actually in a zoo!

Of course, Amy is fretting, but the others don’t really care. Dr. Banjo give the lowdown on what is going on with the resort. After letting the three listen into what Leela and Fry were saying about them. After getting a tour, pen by pen mind you, they get eaten up by a moonworm. They get to the human pen just in time to watch Fry and Leela fly off. They all get back to Planet Express, going into very little detail about the trip. Fry and Leela start getting really smug about Zoidberg and Amy, while Bender is begging to let them in on what happened. They have enough of it, and Amy let’s Bender loose on them.

There were quite a few things I loved about the episode. LinkedIn has officially made it when it has become a joke in primetime animation. The twist of the human habitat was the funniest moment of the hour, and all of the returning characters made the episode watchable. But this episode fell flat after the twist. Where you were expecting one thing, the episode spent most of the last act focused on Amy, Bender, and Zoidberg “rescuing” Leela and Fry. Also, as funny as the reveal was, it seemed like it was there to be a lazy way to get to the end of the episode. I think it was too close to reality when they just had Leela ditch Fry for Sean, then adding the wife to this overly boring episode. This story is full of plot holes that could have been easily fixed, but instead, we get a whole lot of nothing.

Overall: 5/10
