END-OF-SEASON SHORTS REVIEW: APOLLO GAUNTLET(@APOLLORB) SEASON 2 ON @RUGBURNCHANNEL

Warning bitches, spoilers below

Apollo Gauntlet is on some next level trolling shit. If you read my first treatise on AG [here] then you’ll know that I can appreciate such an artform. Even so, AG will always make you question your sense of humor (and sanity) as a whole. At least once an episode I usually have a “Who the hell else thinks this is funny? My sense of humor has gotten so odd that I currently have no peer group. I AM COMPLETELY ALONE SAN DIEGO” moment. I mean I’m still not sure if I have any friends (as offbeat as they may be) to recommend this show to. I suppose it will remain my guilty pleasure.

The second half of season two contains just as much action as the first, which lead to me actually needing to take un-sober notes in order to keep track of the plot (– things happen so fast that it sometimes almost becomes a blur). I have really started to resent how much plot summary I do in my reviews because this is supposed to be a critique rather than cliff notes. That being said, I will indulge ya’ll with my plot notes:

Robot comes for princess
Witch catches the prince
AG fights robot
It’s Corporal Bile’s robot
AG goes to fight witch
AG romps witch
AG boot song then army destroy
Dr. Benign is the name of the doctor
AG fucks up Corporal Bile
Princess gets freed by baby man

I mean that’s pretty much the nuts and bolts of what goes on. But really, this isn’t a plot driven show. The plot here is really only a purposefully hacky and right-to-the-point loose group of jumping off points for obscure references. ridiculous animations, and (what i believe to be) genuine super casual blabber. It may be the un-sobriety taking effect, but I really feel like the voice actor playing AG is either ‘going off the cuff’ on a lot of his lines or he realizes that his lines are so ridiculous that he cracks himself up. I mean this is only a theory, but it seems like AG “uses” (what should actually be) out-takes and pretends they are not. I mean, how many shows have you watched where the main character laughs at himself halfway through a set of lines? Either I’m right, or the voice of AG is a better actor than I’m giving him credit for.

I am giving this half of the season the same score as the last one. All my previous critiques were made after the show was probably produced so they really didn’t have a chance to change anything (even if they wanted to … assuming they read my reviews…). Nothing really popped out to me that warranted new extra points so, status quo here. Season 3, let’s meet in a dark alleyway sometime and use fake names as I shamefully watch the shit out of you.

Here comeeeesssss Apollo Gauntlettttttt
