Review: The Cleveland Show ‘Mr. and Mrs. Brown’
Spoilers Below
The whole family is at the park with Cleveland playing football and Donna picking up his broken body afterwards. But, when Rallo tries to help a stolen candy bar falls out of his pocket. However, instead of fessing up for it, he lets Junior take the fall which gets everyone grounded…like everyone at the park! Back at home, Donna doesn’t seem to care much about Cleveland’s pain. Thankfully, Cleveland’s parents come by and with her husband going to the track Cookie decides to tend to her son’s wounds while he esquire’s her to a country club. Its here that Cleveland learns about old-people sports and he sweeps the entire congregation, but when he gets his trophy the manager mistakens him for being Cookie’s husband to which his mom seems perfectly fine with.
The manager’s name is Kellogg and he decides to setup a hotel stay with the ‘couple’ . When he gets home, Donna and her mom makes fun of Cleveland for spending a bunch of time with mom. The manager comes by and invites him to a ‘Shakespeare in the Park’ that’s going down of which Donna will also be in attendance…if Cleveland ever picks her up! Cleveland attends the Shakespeare thing with his mom which causes Donna to throw him out so that he can live with his mom. Back at Cookie’s house, Cleveland tells all to his mother and she is PISSED! Eventually, Cleveland tires of the same old mac and cheese meals, home-made pants, and constant badgering. This leads to an argument with Cookie going to a retirement gala where Cleveland comes clean about both of them lying. Worse yet, he misses Donna so he runs home to find out that Donna’s on her way to Paris. This causes Cleveland to rush to the airport in time to reunite with his wife once and for all.
Meanwhile, despite the fact that Roberta failed at watching the boys the first time around with the candy bar mishap, Donna puts her in charge of watching them while all three are grounded. This is the first time Junior’s ever had to do hard time, but no matter what Rallo won’t come clean. Next day, Roberta holds a hearing and despite Junior’s pleadings she throws the book at him and gives him a longer sentence. Rallo starts to feel bad about the situation and as a result he decides to get in trouble to spend time with Junior. That said, Junior is a hard-nosed criminal and he scares Rallo into telling the truth! Turns out, Junior was just putting on an act.
Donna flipping off Roberta to start off an episode should happen all the time. That said, the first plot was pretty typical as it was just another ‘Cleveland got caught lying’ deal although this one had a different twist involving his mother as part of the ordeal. Its not often the ladies like to jump in and cause trouble, so I’m glad on this Mother’s Day the mothers delivered. Even Donna and her mom were pretty funny trying to do their best impressions of Cookie. The second plot was a LOT better featuring Roberta finally getting in on some good action for the first time in a while, and Junior pulling a pretty hysterical twist near the end. That said, overall there was nothing over the top to scream about, but a solid entry for the Brown clan.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
