Shorts Reviews: Sonic For Hire – Season 6, Episode 7-8-9
Spoilers Below
Did anyone see Parks & Recreation last Thursday night? If you didn’t, Patton Oswalt had a cameo, playing a townsperson who launched a filibuster to stop the town of Pawnee, Indiana from repealing all the old, outdated (and silly) laws. The filibuster basically involved using the citizen’s right to not give up his turn to speak during the city council meeting, thus denying the council an opportunity to vote. During his time endlessly rambling, Oswalt throws out some plot ideas for the upcoming J.J. Abrams-directed Star Wars Episode VII. It begins with a very-much alive Boba Fett emerging from the Sarlacc pit that originally and allegedly spelled his demise in Return of the Jedi.
As a Fett fan, I am initially inclined to cheer for this hypothetical idea, but as a strict believer in the three original Star Wars films being the ONLY ones, I am also inclined to jeer major plot changes and alterations, and generally anything involving new films.
So seriously, Star Wars geeks, what do y’all think of this? Can Fett come back from the dead? Would you want him to? Does it matter? Let me know in the comments or twitterface me @Gonzo_Green.
The reason I ask (no worries, there’s always a segue) is Episode 7 of Machinima’s Sonic For Hire featured Boba Fett, Dog the Bounty Hunter, and Ghost Rider as bounty hunters hired by Mario to track down Sonic. They fail, however, and The Avengers are enlisted instead. When Sonic approached the superhero supergroup for protection from Mario & his crew, The Avengers tag him and bag him to hand over to Mario.
In Episode 8, the captive Sonic is brought to Mario, who promptly shoots him. With Sonic dead, the world is suddenly peaceful for some reason, and Mario decides to seize the opportunity to seize the world while their guard is down, with a little help from his classic video game goon squad.
Will the gang succeed? Not if Sonic’s demented child, Soniqua, has a say about it!
Episode 9 begins with a Kill Bill homage, starring Soniqua, involving her tracking down and eliminating each member of Mario’s posse. When she eventually reaches a waiting Mario, he easily captures her.
The return of the plumber is providing a much-needed boost to the ongoing saga of Sonic and Tails. For some reason the character works extremely well as a super-villain, and the dialogue provided for him provides just the right about of evil douchebaggery.
The writing on this show remains crisp and witty, and the plotlines are quite entertaining. Maybe not as entertaining as Boba Fett surviving the Sarlacc pit – or Patton Oswalt talking about Boba Fett surviving the Sarlaac pit while guest-starring on Parks & Recreation – but still damn entertaining.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
