Shorts Reviews: Mob Squad Episodes 10-11-12

happy

In case you missed it, this past weekend was a holiday. It acknowledges the enjoyment provided by something I’ve been quite fond of for most of my life. Despite the thing in question making most people happy and full of endless laughter, not everyone is a fan of it, and many have questioned its negative effect on children. I’m talking, of course, about last Friday being the 26th Anniversary of The Simpsons debuting on The Tracey Ullman Show, April 19, 1987. I remember it well. I was negative 11 days old.

Anyway, let’s get to Mob Squad, or something. Episode 10 of the Machinima series basically consisted of Nigel and The Witch waiting for Cooper to take a crap because… you know, I don’t remember. Wait, wait… It’s to fulfill a plan to… er… destroy someone? I honestly don’t even remember, because wherever this story is going, it isn’t going there fast enough. I guess the Mob Squad is still trying to get rid of Steve, the player, but it seems like that plotline was ages ago. Is that the point of the whole season, nay, the entire show so far? Fascinating.

Joke-wise, as much as I don’t generally find poop humor funny in itself, Cooper’s reply to the question of how often he defecates (“I don’t know, I don’t keep a log”) and the subsequent acknowledgement of the pun, is by far the funniest line of two episodes.

Marcus – in Episode 10’s other storyline – is no longer on fire, but still alone and can’t find his friends. He then does something horribly offensive: he sings. Those of you who read my recent Community review will know that Gonzo no-like-a-the-sing-song in shows. It’s tolerable in this case though, because you can’t understand Marcus anyway. I suppose the singing is just for effect… Probably just to illustrate loneliness. Overall, it was a pretty weak episode.

In next episode, Phil finds Marcus and scolds him for exposing himself to sunlight. Also, Cameron confronts Steve, but is unexpectedly impressed by his ability to fish. In the only part even worth watching, Nigel needs the Witch’s help to continue his little project, but her price is a love-making session with Lyle the Spider. Lyle reluctantly agrees and the project is completed, and the item Nigel produces turns out to be… TNT. The episode closes with Lyle lamenting that it wasn’t worth it. I know he means intercourse with The Witch, but I’d like to think he means watching these last two episodes.

In Episode 12, the gang tricks Cameron into placing the TNT box next to the door of Steve’s house. They bicker for a while, don’t even attempt more than a couple jokes, and the sun rises, setting Marcus and Phil temporarily ablaze. After realizing they have no way to detonate the TNT, Steve emerges.

Lyle was right, because it still isn’t worth it.
