Shorts Review: @FOXADHD ”BASKETBALL CATS”

ADHD

Spoilers Below

A parody of the classic Thundercats, Animation Domination High Def, or cleverly abbreviated ADHD, pulls no stops when recreating it’s inspiration; including the similar appearance in animation, a snazzy title card with pink, yellow and orange fonts (popular colors of the 1980s!), and yes, the camp factor.

In “Roller Cat in Trouble”, our titular humanlike-cat is chained up in some weirdo redneck’s cave, with no explanation. Unable to mail the “important” message to his long lost brother pen pal, who helped Roller Cat establish his front-side power grind, Roller Cat is helpless.

That is, until his fellow felines penetrate the cave walls and lay a beating on Roller Cat’s creepy captor with basketballs. The basketball terminology one-liners worked well – a foundation in the action sequences of 80’s gold likeG.I. JoeHe-Man and Transformers. Viewers also get a preview of next week’s episode, where the Cats jam like Jem and the Holograms.

Most of the jokes were few and far in-between, but the episode tends be more fascinating than funny. Like a reflection of the early Generation Y’s childhood, where as the latter part of Gen Y may not understand the point. I sound like an old man.
