Notes from Kevin Smith Reddit AMA Talking Up Groovy Cartoon Movie

Recently my Highlands, NJ brethren aka Kevin Smith took part in a Reddit AMA where he talked all things Smod, the future of Clerks, and his upcoming tour behind the Jay and Silent Bob: Super Groovy Cartoon Movie set to commence in the next few weeks (where the hell is the New Jersey date?). During the chat, the proud owner of a set of Google Glass rims (so jelly) dropped some cool hints about the movie. His BIG deal was explaining how his new movie distribution model works while on tour:

The RED STATE USA Tour leads directly to the JAY & SILENT BOB’S SUPER GROOVY CARTOON MOVIE Tour. We learned how to take a movie on tour with RED STATE (and there’s still more to do with it down the road…), and with GROOVY MOVIE, we get to perfect it. The budget of the entire flick was appallingly low, too: $69,000 (69, Nootch!), so by the end of the first day of ticket sales, we were already in profit. If I was putting this movie in a bunch of theaters with a standard release, we wouldn’t be in profit for years. So… Ta-da! What’s interesting about this is that Kevin is pretty much responsible for the revival of the indie flick, and to hear that he’s kind of doing it a whole ‘nother way means he is clearly flipping off the entire industry one studio at a time. Its refreshing to see truly original ideas WORKING and that seems to be the case with Kevin’s movies even in an era when could just as easily put it up on Youtube or just give it to Netflix out of the gate!

Mr. Smith also had a few tidbits about some Clerks references that will surely be dotted throughout the movie. For example:

Hey baby you ever had a fat man in an overcoat lick your asshole?

Kevin’s answer?

That’s one of Jay’s first lines in the SUPER GROOVY CARTOON MOVIE.
