Comics Review: Futurama #66
Spoilers Below
Fry puts together a game night and everyone’s invited, but no one except the host really wants to play board games from the 20th Century. That said, because everyone is such good friends, they decide to go through with it. Then just like something out of Jumanji, the entire party gets zapped onto a planet where Fry, Leela, Bender, Zoidberg, Hermes, and the other BECOME the board game! Hosted by the Parkour Brothers on our Planet of Hasbroni, the players get put through a number of obstacles inspired by games like Monopoly, Candyland, and a new one called Avoid Getting Eaten by a Big Fucking Monster made out of Game Pieces. Thankfully, with the powers of teamwork, Fry, Leela, and the gang are able to win out and are able to find their way back home…well except Scruffy!
I love E-Rog, but the major complaint that I had with this issue of Futurama was that Fry was terrible scripted. I feel like he was scripted as a run of the mill guy just calling his spots to carry along the story, instead of showing the affable dumb-luck humor of how we normally see Fry. That said, I felt the premise was awesome, and the Parkour Brothers fit into the mold of all those characters rather well. Speaking of all those characters, a lot of them were very seldom used examples being Farnsworth, but it was fun to kind of pick out some classic faces that we may have not seen in quite a while either on the TV show or in print form. The monster at the end was awesome looking, so much so that its up their with anything I’ve seen in God of War in terms of ingenuity and delivery. At $3 its still a good buy…
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
