THE SUN ALSO RAISES

Nixon went ahead and sold the sun to Planet Holdem, but on behalf of Earth tricky dick set it up so that he can still rent the sun. That said, with rent comes a landlord and who better than Planet Express to deliver a check??  Bender, Fry, and Leela are to task but before they reach their destination the crew stops for gas. Unfortunately, the crew wastes so much time there that the sun is shut off and now Earth is very cold. Turns out Planet Holdem and its inhabitants are on holiday and as a result the Express crew can’t deliver the check.

Back on Earth, Wernstrom and Farnsworth get into a heated or cold or….ok it was a fight. Farnsworth is doing everything possible to keep the Earth warm so that its inhabitants can survive but Wernstrom wants to keep the planet cold so that eventually everyone will freeze(it works….just ask Fry). The two scientists continue to battle on Earth while another wages on Holdem but of a different variety. The Holdem holiday involves a bunch of gambling and despite their best efforts neither Bender nor Leela can win a hand of poker and someone has to win the house or the sun might not make it on in time to save Earth. Thankfully, we have Fry and his dumb luck, both of which place bets and win out the day. Because of Fry, not only is the rent paid but Nixon gets back Earth.

This month’s issue of Futurama has all of the ingredients of what makes the brand great, whether on TV or in print. Everything from Bender’s randomness showing up to thwart any attempt at Planet Express getting their job done. To Fry’s showing up out of nowhere to win the day and prove everyone that sometimes when you are dumb, you are tough as well. Also, the battle between Fry and Wernstrom provided for a great B-story with Farnsworth’s one-liners and Wernstrom’s constant cold puns being hurled at one another. Great issue and definitely worth a buy.
