WINTER 2013 ANIMATED TV PREVIEW
It’s that time of year ladies and gentlemen where we do a full on mass preview of the biggest animated television shows on the planet this time for the Winter 2013 season. After the jump, we do previews for new, returning, and continuing shows
The Simpsons season continues
Network: FOX
Premiere: January 6
The Simpsons’ 24th Season already has had a number of impressive guest stars like Fred Armisen, Steve Carell, and others and the show looks to continue its strong showing with new episodes starting this Sunday Night on FOX. Also, with football season winding down, it will be interesting to see how the numbers hold up.
Bob’s Burgers season continues
Network: FOX
Premiere: January 6
Bob’s Burgers is FOX’s best show right now, and to prove it the program recently made our list of the Ten Best Animated Series of 2012 placing itself in the number 2 spot by a very slim margin. That said, if the program continues to put on outstanding guest stars like Zach Galifianakis, this show could be in a different stratosphere from the rest of the pack.
Family Guy season continues
Network: FOX
Premiere: January 6
Family Guy is a strange case. Some weeks its the best show on television, other weeks the plots get stale. That said, FOX’s biggest animated show is back and we still have a bunch of guest stars to get to like Jon Hamm, Sandra Bernhard, and more. Can the show regain its form?? Its too early to tell now, but the Christmas special was pretty damn good.
American Dad season continues
Network: FOX
Premiere: January 6
People have been trying to write off American Dad pretty much since its premier a bunch of years ago. But, the show keeps coming back and delivering despite a year where we got pre-emps and Parent Teacher Councils bitching, the ratings are solid and American Dad’s writing is getting better which was seen evident in the most recent episode featuring Will Forte. Other guest stars on the way include Jon Hamm, Chloe Moretz, and a bunch others all of whom continue to bring a lot of promise to the series
.
The Cleveland Show season continues
Network: FOX
Premiere: January 13
Is this Cleveland’s swan song?? So far, Season 4 has been pretty damn good for the series that is I think still trying to branch out and utilize ancillary characters in major plots. With Murder Police set to air next season, it will be interesting to see if The Cleveland Show is able to bow out gracefully. Being a spin-off is not easy, just ask Joey.
Archer
Network: FX
Premier 1/17/2013
As you may have noticed around here as of late, one of the biggest stories for the Winter 2013 season is the return of Archer on FX. New episodes of the upcoming season include the eagerly anticipated crossover with Bob’s Burgers of which you can read about it here with a trailer. Also, Malory is fixing to get married, and Justified’s Timothy Olyphant is fixing to stop by. Archer returns January 17th @ 10pm EST only on FX, check your local listings!
Out There
Network: IFC
Premiere: 2/22/13
The news department has been filling up with more and more news about IFC’s new animated series Out There. As a quick review, Out There is a new series staring Ryan Quincy (South Park) as Chad, his little bro Jay, and best friend Chris as they battle the shitty years of teenagery. Rounding out the cast includes John DiMaggio (Futurama) and Kate Micucci (Raising Hope). You can check out a full preview of the series here, as well as a trailer for the upcoming premier. Yes, Out There premiers @ 10:30pm EST on 2/22/13, but you can catch a sneak peak on IFC next Friday Night at the same time slot.
South Park
Network: Comedy Central
Premiere: TBA
Comedy Central and maybe cable TV’s biggest show, South Park is looking for a return with its 17th Season, probably sometime in March or April. But, good luck getting any new info from show producers Matt Stone and Trey Parker as there is a good chance that they don’t even know what the fuck they are going to write about…and that’s the way I like it.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
