DONUT DISTURB

There’s a new contest at the Donut shop where the winner gets a $1000 scholarship AND free donuts for life. When Bart and Lisa hear about it, they both decide to enter for their own reasons. Weirdly enough, Lisa hates donuts but Bart loves  ’em, and it shows in their writing. To kind of absolve the situation, Lisa comes up with a fairy tale about a sort of Donut Land whereas Bart just interviews his dad on why Lard Land donuts are so good. The Simpsons’ respected entries get them all the way to the semi finals and a chance to present at an award ceremony where the winner will be chosen. Lisa has a nervous breakdown on stage, but Bart’s entry steals the show and gets him the Lard crown! With the crown, Bart has a new set of responsibilities which includes travelling the world opening new stores, quality assurance, and pretty much being a celebrity face of the company. Soon, Bart even has to stop going to school because his grades suffer as a result of all of the globe hopping. Eventually, Bart starts growing weary of his new job and even asks Lisa to help him bail from working at Lard’s once and for all. With Bart fired, it isn’t long until the owner of the company finds a new ‘sprinkle’ to take his place.

This month’s issue is like a box of donuts. When you look at the see-through box you notice that everything looks delicious and you want some. Then you open it and eat a few and all of a sudden you get a stomach ache. That said, you feel better once you take a dumb and give an overall view of the situation. That’s kinda what happens here as Bongos’ latest effort had all the makings of a pretty decent snack, but the climax and ending left me with a bad taste. I was really pumped when Lisa was starting to read her story and give us a taste of a land with donut people, but alas it was just a sample and it really didn’t give us enough to sample.
