REVIEW: BOB’S BURGERS ”Tina-rannosaurus Wrecks“
Overview (Spoilers Below)
Bob’s had a great day so he decides to give Tina the keys to the car to drive him around the parking lot despite the fact that it’s against the law. With no driving experience what-so-ever, Tina nervously crashes the car into the only other vehicle in the parking lot even with all of her father’s yelling and carrying on to stop. After leaving a note with the car they crashed into, Bob and Tina snag a cab and head back to the restaurant where he gets a phone call that the car the Belchers hurt belonged to Jimmy Pesto! Jimmy wants to do things the dick way and go through the insurance agencies, so to protect himself Bob begs Tina to make sure she isn’t the one to blame for the accident that it was all her dad’s fault. Tina, being the legal beagle that she is, hates lying but she promises to keep this a secret with her dad.Later on Chase, aka Bob’s insurance agent, comes into the restaurant to ask a few questions which causes Tina to almost pass out.
Bob starts telling Chase about what happened but Tina starts adding in all these little details that are starting to make this little white lie into a big ol’ fairy tale, but thankfully the agent buys it and invites the Belchers to cater his upcoming barbecue.
With no car, Louise and Gene decide to take Mort on his offer to drive them around places in his hearse of which NO kid would turn down. As luck would have it, Mort’s on his way to a funeral and the kids are stoked to be riding around with a dead body.On another trip, Mort takes the kids to a for sale apartment where they shower, pee, and scare away potential tenants. Thankfully, Bob borrows the hearse and drives it to the barbecue where Linda is getting lit and telling everyone at the cookout all about the accident. A pretty run of the mill party right?? Nope, Tina burns down Chase’s house!
Turns out this all happened because Tina’s losing her mind about lying to the insurance guy, but no matter what this son of a bitch Chase is fine with the whole situation. That said, Bob decides to tell his wife and kids about what really happened with the car accident causing Bob and Tina to go down to the agency to come clean. Turns out Chase knew about it the whole time and that he used the lie to get Tina to come over so that the house would burn down and he can collect double of what its claimed for. That’s right, Chase an insurance agent, is defrauding an insurance agency and he wants Tina and Bob to help out in exchange for a cut of the profits. If Bob or Tina tell, Bob could go to jail because Chase would testify against him about everything. Tina’s pissed and she wants to get back at the agent by scaring the shit out of him so bad that he will never want to see the Belchers ever again.
Chase heads over to the restaurant the next day and Bob tells him about his basement flooding and that the kids are down there! DEAD!! Yep, the kids drowned because of Chase’s plan but he doesn’t buy it due to Bob’s terrible acting. Mort isn’t acting as a driver anymore so Bob needs his car back so he just goes along with the phony claim. Worse yet, Chase has a bunch more scams to, but Tina records the blackmail and has it sent to the feds who hear it.
Despite the fact that the great Bob Odenkirk was in this week’s episode I felt this week of Bob’s was mediocre at best. For one, I’m already getting sick of Bob doing a bunch of catering events with him not wanting to do it but Linda makes him do it anyway. Next, I never felt that Tina was a clumsy character and that’s what she came off as with the car accident. She’s adorable, weird, and goofy, but to be honest the last few weeks she’s been getting somewhat clumsy and dopey with an accident and then it spirals out of control. That said, last week’s episode had so many jokes and all of the kids were well represented, this week two of them were sent driving around in a mindless B-plot that only confused me in terms of the timeline because the kids kept going back and forth to the restaurant. That said, Tina was very funny with her hyper ventilating and Bob’s attempts at covering up the truth and/or turn the tables on Chase reminded me why I tune in every Sunday Night, but let’s just hope these small wells we keep seeing don’t become a recurring practice.
