DVD REVIEW: TED
You would think a film that makes a half a billion dollars at the box office and coming out on DVD, the producers could just mail it in when it comes to special features and extra content. Instead, Ted puts together one of the best packages that should give fans and non-fans alike enough reason to buy this. Check out the review after the jump!
You can check out our exclusive review of the movie Ted here. But, you know as well as I know that the movie is one of the funniest to come into theaters in a lot of years and that alone should warrant the purchase especially the unrated version of which I think is actually a better cut compared to the theatrical one. . However, Seth MacFarlane and Co. put in so much awesome shit into the unrated home release that I don’t know how I am not getting charged double on the purchase. To start you get some of the funniest commentaries I’ve ever heard with the release coming from the always great Seth MacFarlane, his writing partner in crime Alec Sulkin, and surprisingly maybe my favorite commentary that coming from Mark Wahlberg himself. I don’t think I’ve ever heard a Mark Wahlberg commentary before, especially on a comedy, and boy is he funny as hell. That said, even if you aren’t a fan of anything Seth MacFarlane does, even the sternest of critics can’t deny how cool a lot of what’s on this release.
With Ted the home release you get your standard fare of deleted scenes, gag reels, and alternate takes, all of which are really good and Seth’s improv is pretty great. But, the real crown jewel of the release is the ‘Making of Ted’ pseudo documentary which I suggest to anyone looking to get into film or any sort of mo-cap work because its kind of incredible how they put this one together. The technology for Ted is just so ahead of its time, and I’m sure there are professional film makers out there that are going to be watching this with a pen and paper and take notes so that we can get a whole slew of Ted like films in the next ten years or so. Don’t believe me? Remember when the kids shit was just Pixar and Dreamworks alternating films every year??? It used to be just one CG film a year, this year there must have been a hundred. Ted is just as ground-breaking, which makes sense because Seth MacFarlane way back when created an animated television show that would eventually get cancelled, brought back, and establish quality animated television on FOX and Adult Swim for years to come. With Ted, Seth MacFarlane looks to do the same with film and the documentary shows that in great detail.
Quite simply, I know there are a lot of Seth MacFarlane haters out there whether the reasons be for Seth’s brand of humor, or for people of whom just too much of a penis to understand how good Family Guy and American Dad really are. Seth has broken all the rules of TV, he created new ones with Ted, and now he has mastered the home release for films. This is a release that is out there with Jurassic Park, Avatar, Aliens:Director’s Cut, whatever in terms of trend setting works of art that will help shape the industry for the foreseeable future. Buy this, its important…
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
