REVIEW REWIND: CRASH CANYON “CONFIDENCE BUILDER”
Check out a review for Crash Canyon broadcasted earlier this year. Better get it now because show doesn’t seem to be returning anytime soon!
Spoilers Below
After the community’s solar power generator goes on the fritz, and the canyon is living in the dark, it’s up to mechanical engineer Norm to fix it. After several attempts, including an overheating solar panel (conveniently frying a bird for Vernon to eat) and a makeshift wind catcher, Norm begins to doubt himself as “a man” (his misuse of baseball terms doesn’t help either).
Meanwhile, Jake and Roxy stumble upon a large lethargic rat and convince their mother to allow them to keep it if they take responsibility. Lucky for the Wendell kids, the rodentia corpulentus (rodent corpse!) only requires food once every six months and dislikes any form of physical movement (yes, corpse), according to a cutaway joke with a zoologist.
Thanks to inspiration from his mashed potatoes and gravy, Norm has an epiphany to build a damn and use hydro electricity to power the canyon. He is on the right track to get his groove back.
So Norm and Earl set out to build the damn, and in the process, Norm becomes more and more masculine.
The title of the episode even works as a double entendre: “Confidence Builder.”From growing a beard to having his way with Sheila, he eventually almost works himself to death.
After suffering from a minor heart attack, Pete and Carol search for heart medication from a crashed truckload of pharmaceuticals. Using resident rock star and junkie Sid as a guinea pig to test the pills, they eventually find the right meds, judging by Sid’s hilarious and instantaneous side effects and reactions (but who didn’t see the Viagra gag coming?).
Norm always seems to act masculine only to be atoning for his poor choices later on in other episodes, but this time around, it seems more genuine, like he has nothing to lose.
Overall, the episode was pretty stale. Sometimes it seems as if Crash Canyon is trying too hard. Some of the characters (who are dimensional and very colorful in their own right) come across as if they were created solely for the jokes they convey. But it was a treat to see Norm step outside “the norm” for once and take on a whole new venture that results in a decent amount of laughs.
But Uncle Vernon, as always, is the show stealer in this episode.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
