After a night of binge drinking, Vernon wakes up with a mysterious rash.

When he visits Carol, one of the canyon’s ambulance attendants, she applies a topical cream to his “Groucho Marx” (get it? Mustache and cigar) and he then develops a crush, complete with sexual fantasies involving food.

He then goes out of his way to sabotage his manhood to have Carol apply more ointment.

Meanwhile, Sheila realizes she has no friends in the Canyon. Lucky for the Wendell matriarch, who has grown bored and lonely, Angel Charbonnel, her daughter Brandi, and the young girl’s gay modeling coach, Stephanel crash into the canyon. After Angel takes a dislike to Beverly Manderbelt, Sheila immediately develops a friendship with the snobby mother.

Brandi has a hard time adapting to the trailer park-esque lifestyle and runs away. After Jake discovers her in a crevasse and sacrifices himself helping her out, Brandi is still acting like her old self, which pits Sheila against Angel after realizing she has neglected her own children since the Charbonnel’s unexpected arrival.

With the introduction of these three new characters, it gives the writers more to work with in terms of stereotypes and character interactions, which is probably why the show becomes a little more dimensional after this story arch, right before the second season.
