REVIEW: BLACK DYNAMITE “SEED OF KURTIS AKA FATHER IS JUST ANOTHER WORD FOR MOTHERF…”

A revenge-hungry frog goes after Black Dynamite’s father, who recently reunited with his son under suspicious circumstances.

Spoilers Below

Black Dynamite once killed Kurtis the frog on national television. Who is Kurtis?? Welp, he was pretty much the pimpinist puppet in town and Black grew up watching him until Kurtis went nuts. Years later, Frog Kurtis’ son aka TB Kurtis is back for revenge and he’s got some brothers to help out. That said Black’s got some daddy issues of his own! While driving a big ol’ us of kids to disco skatin’, Black comes up to a big huge church planted right in the middle of the highway and its holding up traffic. The preacher?? Daddy Dynamite! Turns out Daddy’s broke so Black offers to put him up to help him out until his congregation is put together.

Eventually, Black figures out that his dad’s congregation is nothing but a cheating scheme to extort people for money and as such wants nothing to do with it. To prove it Black Dynamite throws his dad out of the Whorephanage, but the preacher gets picked up by an unexpected visitor…Kurtis Jr! TB Kurtis convinces Daddy to come with him to preach to puppets and continue is extortion scheme but really its just a ploy to kill the father of Black Dynamite. Worst yet, Kurtis sent a couple of puppets to the disco skating floor to try and take Black out but of course fail miserably. Eventually, Black, Bee, and Corn show up to Kurtis’ studio to try and save Daddy, but the green bastard shows up with his army of other green bastards but fortunately for Black they all have a terrible shot and get wrecked! Black prepares to make the fatal blow on Bastard Kurtis but Daddy talks him out of it and we go disco skating!

Yep, imagine if Kermit the Frog went nuts, but really I felt this episode had some good lessons about fatherhood and not walkin’ out on your kids. The premise for this week was pretty great and Black continues to show its growth from indy flick to an animated powerhouse that certainly rivals if not surpasses Carl Jones’ previous work on The Boondocks. The disco fights with the puppets were really well done and maybe the best of the season, and Black’s dad was a trip as you can definitely tell where the star of the show gets some of his mannerisms. Overall, Black Dynamite has definitely turned into a fantastic new tent pole franchise for Adult Swim with solid premises, outlandish characters, and high-octane fight scenes that would make even the Karate Kid blush. If you haven’t started watching this show yet, you deserve a nunchuck to the face!
