REVIEW: LEGO NINJAGO “MASTERS OF SPINJITZU “CHILD’S PLAY”
The ninjas become kids again and must battle an ancient monster with Lloyd’s help.
Spoilers Below
Garmadon’s breaks into the downtown museum with his Serpentine friends to check out a skeleton statue of a beast called the Grundle and bring it back to life. Thankfully, the Ninjago stop Garmadon but are caught in the cross fire of the evil minion’s weapon and are turned into kids. Worst yet, after foiling the Serpentine’s attempt at stealing a sarcophagus, the boys get nabbed by the cops and are ordered to return to the museum to apologize to the manager. While the boys are tying to plead their case, they notice that the Grundle statue is gone, so they sneak out in an attempt to go look for the Sensei and Nya, both of whom are out looking for the ninja and have left Lloyd in charge of the Bounty.
Eventually, the Ninja call up Lloyd and ask him to come down to the pizza place and bring their weapons. While there, Lloyd claims he knows EXACTLY how to take out the Grundle…well kinda. Basically, he brings the crew to the local comic book shop who tells the Ninja that their weapons are useless and that the Grundle is sensitive to light. As luck would have it, the guy actually has four Ilumma-swords all with the power to help take out the wretched beast, however the Ninja have to enter Lloyd in a comic trivia contest to win them!
The Sensei and Nya return to the ship and a long overdue voice mail from Lloyd detailing whats going down, so the two decide to turn to a chemist that has a special tea in stock that can maybe help turn the Ninja older. Eventually, Nya and Sensei get to the comic shop JUST in time to catch the Grundle breaking into the store and attacking the ninjas. Sensei throws the tea to Lloyd who uses it on the Grundle which destroys it but it also turns the Ninjago older. And yep, now Lloyd is older too, which means his battle with Garmadon is coming sooner than expected!
Not a lot of Garmadon in this week’s episode which I felt was strange, but all in all a decent effort. It was good seeing Nya and Sensei more involved this week as well as I felt their importance has been waning the last few episodes. The Green Ninja is all grown up now so it’ll be interesting to see how he starts to play out in his journey with Garmadon and I couldn’t help but notice the Serpentine are a bit more antsy and questioning their masters’ leadership which leads me to believe we may get a power struggle soon. Oh yea, and naming the episode ‘Child’s Play’ was pretty awesome in its own right.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
