REVIEW: BLACK DYNAMITE “The Dark Side of the Dark Side of the Moon or A Crisis at Christmas”

Bullhorn drives coolest sled ever while Black Dynamite gets in the obligatory Christmas spirit.

Spoilers Below

Christmas in August??? Sure…and evidently no one loves seeing Santa, putting up lights, and visiting Santa Claus more than Black Dynamite. However, the only thing the orphans want for Christmas is for Black Dynamite to join OJ Simpson in going to the Moon to get some rocks. As it turns out Black actually grew up with OJ, and even went to USC with him and was the star running back’s lead blocker. After a few weeks in astronaut boot camp, Black Dynamite is looking more and more like the real thing while OJ, not so much. As a result, on the day of the launch, OJ splits! The son of a bitch takes off and leaves Black to take part in the rocket launch by himself.

As the “MASA” space launch commences, the rocket Black Astronaut Dynamite is on explodes in space and as such everyone presumes he is dead. With everyone worrying the Whorephanage gets a welcome surprise in the name of OJ Simpsons who decides to take over the orphanage probably because he feels bad about ditching Black Dynamite like a douchebag. Turns out, Black Dynamite survives the rocket and befriends a space monkey that was abandoned by his government and knows how to get to the moon for a shit ton of moon rocks, only to be interrupted by a bunch of Moon Amazonian warrior-princesses.

After defeating the Moon bitches, Black and the monkey run into Black Santa Claus who comes to the moon to drop off presents for the now orphaned alien children. Knowing that he has to get back to save his own Orphan from the tyranny of OJ,  Black Dynamite hitches a ride and takes with him the alien kids back to Earth. But, once he gets there the kids realize that they didn’t need the moon rocks and were acting like spoiled orphans, so Black flips the fuck out and flushes the moon rocks down the toilet.

Wow, I normally don’t like holiday episodes that are put out randomly but this week’s episode was so chock full of awesome guest stars I felt like it was MY Christmas season. Having been a fan of MADTV has a kid, it was certainly a welcome surprise in hearing Aries Spears and the smoking hot Debra Wilson come aboard and lend their vocal talents in this week’s episode and out of NOWHERE here comes Billy friggin’ West from Futurama! Good stuff, but this week Black Dynamite was the comedic king. For one, watching his back story with OJ Simpson unfold was pretty awesome, and the montage of BD and OJ training might have been one of the best montages I’ve seen since Rocky. The one complaint I had with the episode is I wish we had seen MORE of OJ Simpson similar to the Michael Jackson and Richard Pryor stories before it. I just felt that the overall plot of OJ acting like a dick at the orphanage was very much laid out, but was kind of rushed near the end or the conclusion. A good episode, but certainly with a few flaws.
