LOST OUR LEELA

Leela and the rest of the Planet Express crew are at odds as to whether or not Leela could be a good mom, hell even Fry doesn’t think so. Unfortunately, when Farnsworth relays a mission in finding a rare space rock, Leela tries to do it with just Zoidberg watching over her and as such her cord disconnects and she ends up being ost in space until she gets picked up by a Klingon Permanente Hospital. Turns out Leela smashed her head on an asteroid and she’s suffering from slight amnesia, and who better to take advantage than Sir Zapp Brannigan, of whom decides to swoop in and pose as Leela’s husband. Zapp even goes so far as to take Leela to his dwelling with his three robot kids and while he’s out living the life, Leela is back at the house with her ‘kids’. However, Zapp refuses to bang out his ‘wife’ because he doesn’t want to jog her memory nor bear anymore kids.

Meanwhile back on the ship, Bender and Fry are told by Farnsworth that if they don’t get that stone back in space its going to blow up and destroy everything in its pat like a nuclear warhead! Thankfully, after looking for every space rock in the galaxy, they stumble onto Leela’s rock which is now retrofitted to a necklace that Zapp was trying to gamble away. Also, as soon as Bender and Fry get there, Leela begins to start remembering things, important things like the fact that she isn’t married with robot kids. All of a sudden, one of Zapp’s gambling buddies steals the precious stone and tries to take off into space with it but his ship blows up! The gang takes off which is good because Bender has some stolen gems and Nibbler needs a diaper change.

I like how one of the robots that Leela was taking care of pretty much looked just like The Simpsons’ Jimbo Jones. Overall however, I think the writer for this particular story needs to watch more Futurama because I believe he is a little behind the times when writing the characters’ dialogue, and I think Hermes is typically the one who gets the brunt of not being on TV as script calls for more Jamaican jokes for whatever reason. Also, Zapp, Leela, and Fry’s relationships have moved WAY past to where they were in this story. Having said that, if you are looking for a Futurama issue that is a bit more of  throwback to the early days this may be the issue for you, for the rest, just watch it on Wednesday.
