REVIEW: GRAVITY FALLS “THE INCONVENIENCING”

Dipper is invited by teens on a trek that leads to an abandoned inconvenience store that may be haunted.

This week’s episode starts off with Uncle Stan leaving the store with Soos in charge of watching the now “13” year-old twins and Wendy. But of course, maybe 5 seconds goes by and the kids all head up a ladder to the roof of the store only for Wendy to take off with Dipper’s heart which is just so abundantly clear to his twin sister Mabel. The next day at work, Wendy introduces the other teenagers to Mabel and Dipper who come along with the older folk to an abandoned convenience store. One of the kids tries talking smack to Dipper because no one else is able to get into the store which is lucked shut…but not for Dipper! He finds an alternate way into the store and as such lets everyone into the dark and probably haunted store.

So, whats a bunch of kids to do in such a dark, desolate, and spider-web infested place??? Well, tear it down of course!! Once the lights go on, the store turns into an all out party-fest with food fights, ice cream, and Mabel nearly in a sugar-induced coma from all the candy! After a while though, things tend to get weird for young Dipper Pines as he starts seeing things. Everything from skeleton reflections to floating brains. Even weirder is when Dipper is pressured to lay down in one of the chalk outlines of the murder victims, which then sets off some sort of electronic disturbance that vaporizes one of the teens! At first the teens didn’t believe Dipper when he tried to warn them about the haunted store, but guess what…now they are SOLD!

Apparently, when you get vaporized in the store you end up as part of the store, like Tamry becomes part of the security monitor, a hot dog, Thompson a DDR-esque dance game, and even Liam as a box of cereal. Come to find out that the store ghost takes over Mabel’s body and turns the store upside down! Dipper soon figures out that the people who ran the store do not like teenagers, hence why everyone is getting messed with. Dipper comes clean and tells the ghosts AND Wendy that he’s only 12 so he doesn’t count as a teen and neither does Mabel. But, he still has to save the rest of the teens so the ghost asks Dipper to dress up as a lamb and dance, dance, dance the night away until the ghosts let all the teens free. As soon as they get free, Wendy just couldn’t wait to tell her friends the embarrassing stuff Dipper had to do to get everyone free, but she instead decides to change the story up to make Dipper feel more grown up and as a result keeps everyone friends.

Overall, this was the best episode of Gravity Falls, and as such deserves our most respected award. Unfortunately, for the competition this means this show is in the lead to take best new animated series of the year, but with a bunch more shows on the way can it keep up the pace? As for “The Inconveniencing”, the episode was hysterical with Mabel’s dream sequences and everyone getting trapped in various store items! I mean dear Lord, one of the teens turns into a hot dog!! Coupled with the fact that the plot was a rock solid adventure that would even warrant a second viewing if one has it recorded. Alex Hirsch has turned me into a believer, and as such it deserves the best grade.
