REVIEW: AQUA SOMETHING YOU KNOW WHATEVER “BOOKIE”

Shake gambles and learns an important lesson.

What is it with everyone owing people money this week on Adult Swim?? First, Black Dynamite has to pay back taxes and now Shake has to pay back bookies?? In any case, Meatwad shows off his magic tricks to everyone which includes pretty much being able to shit everything he eats. You name it, swords, arrows, hell, he can even make you an espresso! Of course Shake always wants everyone to look at him and naturally is jealous and even lays claim that he can swallow swords, too. Carl has a trick too, he can take his necklace and cram it in his nose and run it back and forth.

At first, Shake calls Carl out on his talents and bets that he can’t do it. As such, they go to a Bookie who puts up a bunch of odds on Carl’s behalf that he can/can’t do it and Shake places a number of wagers on those odds. In probably the grossest scene in the history of animated comedy, not only does Carl run his necklace through his nose once…he does it twice! Yep, Shake loses out and now he owes the Bookie about a grand. Frylock reluctantly pays but vows that Shake has to do a bunch of chores to pay him back. Instead, Shake sells off a shitty lawn mower for $40 and goes with Carl and Meatwad to place some more wagers. Meat and Carl bet on the football games like normal people, Shake?? He bets that Meatwad gets eaten by a pack of bees and bets on 100-1 odds.

Carl and Meatwad just keep on winning, Shake on the other hand gets into debts upwards of over a $100,000 and seeing as how the bookie probably used to be in the mafia, he’s going to work his ‘magic’ to where if Shake doesn’t pay with his cash, he will with his life! At first, the bookie just beats the unholy shit out of Shake, then he takes the “drink cup” to a bridge and threatens to toss him off, but thankfully Meatwad shows up and is able to pay off Shake’s debts and a little somethin’ somethin extra. But, we ain’t through yet! Shake owes money to Meatwad now, so Meat bets $140,000 that Shake can’t swallow a sword. Despite trying to get out of it, Sir Shakes-alot certainly does swallow said sword, however judging by all the injuries, he will probably owe the hospital a bunch of money now, too!

Another solid episode from the Aqua folks. For one, I can’t remember a time when Shake got the shit kicked out of him this bad, I mean….DAMN! That and all of Meatwad’s magic tricks were probably worth the price of admission on its own, but thankfully we get a bunch of other really funny moments during the course of the episode. Like, I kept thinking the movie Casino with this Italian bookie vs Shake tussle, and the things that Shake would bet on time and time again had me in stitches. There were some plot holes, like what happened to Fry’s thousand bucks, but overall it was a good week
