MATT GROENING CANCELS “LIFE IN HELL”

Some may not know it but for 32 years Matt Groening has still been giving us his blood, sweat, and tears in his very first foray into cartoons…Life In Hell. For those who don’t know, Life In Hell follows bunnies Binky and his girlfriend Sheba living in the city and it isn’t rosie. According to an article in USA TODAY:

In a telling tale of the times, Groening not only wasn’t getting rich off the comic (papers paid just $18 a week for the strip), but he also was losing money on it for 10 years, says Sondra Gatewood of ACME Features, Life in Hell’s syndicator.

At its height, Life in Hell was distributed to 379 newspapers, she says. Now it’s down to just 38. The final strip ran June 15, but reruns will continue through July 13.

I’m surprised Matt kept up the strip as long as he did as he makes a bunch of money on The Simpsons and Futurama. He was also the recent recipient of a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
