REVIEW: REGULAR SHOW “Yes Dude Yes”

Mordecai looks for a girlfriend to help him get over Margaret, who he thinks is engaged

Spoilers Below

Mordecai is PUMPED because he’s gonna ask Margaret on a date. So imagine the look of shock on his face when he sees some other dude proposing to her at work! It gets so bad in fact that Mordecai sets into a deep depression and refuses to leave his room for like five days. Being the cool pal that he is, Rigby signs up “Morde-cool” for an online dating service. After a few dates with the usual crop of weirdness you usually find with internet dating, Mordecai meets a girl named CJ and they quickly become friends. After hanging out for a while, Mordecai asks CJ to the movies and she accepts, but when he is on his way home he runs into Margaret and gets all depressed again. After spending a bunch more time in the bathroom sulking, Benson and Skips come over and convince Mordecai to tell Margaret how he feels. Turns out, Margaret’s ‘fiance’ is really her cousin, John who is just in town to show off his new wooden leg!

As a result of the misunderstanding, Mordecai asks Margaret if she wants to go the movies and she says yes,, but guess who’s in the coffee shop over hearing the conversation? CJ! And boy she gets so pissed she turns into a thunderstorm so violent I bet Bill Paxton was chasing it! Mordecai eventually talks her down and CJ leaves pretty upset as she thought things were going well and that they could take their relationship to the next level. After seeing what went down, Margaret declines going out with Mordecai too but luckily her cousin, John is in town!

This week’s episode had SO MUCH going on! I mean it was the best episode I have ever seen of the show what with the drama surrounding Mordecai’s depression, to the comical montage with him and CJ, leading then into the climax!  I gotta tell you, some people call this show a kid’s show, and while yes it gears towards a younger audience there are a lot of late teenage to early adult themes being worked on here. Everything from work, to dating, to depression, and rejection. These are all things that would fly over any kid’s head, it just so happens its all wrapped in an entertaining Tootsie-Roll that everyone can agree on.  JG Quintel is quickly becoming a master of the 15-minute format and its only a matter of time before Regular Show’s Adult Swim cousins take notice if they haven’t already.
