REVIEW: THE SIMPSONS “BEWARE MY CHEATING BART”

Cheat on me?

Spoilers Below

The Simpsons are at the mall and Homer eats a shit ton from the food court so of course a weight loss equipment sales man gets him the hook up on a new treadmill with a TV attached to it! And as luck would have it the TV has internet access and a Netflix like service that lets you stream all of the old TVshows you could want. At first, Homer gets stuck on this one show called Stranded but he skips out on the exercise part and goes to town on all of the back seasons. Turns out the show is so addicting that Homer ignores all including his wife which of course pisses her off. Even when he tries to start a discussion group with friends about the show, Marge interrupts it and peppers Homer with a bunch of spoilers thereby ruining the chance for Homer to watch the other seasons and settling whatever rift there was between Marge and Homer.

Meanwhile, Bart is ordered by Jimbo to chaperone his girlfriend Shawna on a few dates while he attends to elsewhere. Eventually, Shawna starts to take a liking to the much younger Bart which becomes quite evident when he gets his first flash show! Nope, not a ‘flash show’ like Dan Vs., I mean a total boobage viewing!  At first, seeing his first set of boobs kind of makes Bart confused as he can probably get with Shawna but he might get a beating from Jimbo. And of course after Bart tells Shawna how he feels, he gets that very beating as he gets caught red-handed kissing Jimbo’s lady. After getting chased through the neighborhood, Bart takes Shawna to the comic book store where Comic Book Guy sells him out leading him into a ‘flame war’ with Shawna. After a bitter defeat, Comic Book Guy kicks Bart and Shawna out of the store and they are on the road again and head back to Bart’s treehouse where Lisa helps settle the dispute.

Boy oh boy, I hope NONE of the Jackass people check out the opening scene, what with a movie called Jackass: The Funeral a year removed from former cast member Ryan Dunn’s death. Having said that both plots felt somewhat recycled this week. The A-plot started along the lines of all the other “Homer tries to lose weight” stories but thankfully it lightened up a bit as the completely accurate portrayal of Lost fans began to take shape. However, the B-plot seemed all too familiar to the famous “New Kid on the Block” episode featuring Sara Gilbert as Laura Powers the only difference really being the older girl reciprocates Bart’s flirting this time around but BOTH episodes ended up in Bart’s tree house with the girl choosing neither dude in the end. Lastly, I loved the two-prong build up leading up to this week’s episode for the chalkboard gag(which didn’t solve anything) and the wonderful couch gag as done by Bill Plympton.
