Steve really wants a dog but Stan is still reeling from a childhood incident where he had to kill his dog Freddy in cold blood so neither him nor Roger want one. Francine, however, gets Steve a dog anyway and names it “Kisses”. Of course it isn’t long before Stan loves the dog too, that is until it gets flattened by a cat driven air-balloon. Luckily the dog survives, but is in a vegetative state that is costing the Smiths a fortune.

At the local library, we get a musical montage of Stan reading all these books so that he can learn how to perform surgery on Kisses, but instead he just steals the dog back and takes him to another doctor who turns Kisses into a cyborg. When Stan brings the mutilated corpse home, it horrifies his family who beg him to just kill it which, after a lucid dream with his old dog Freddie, he does.

After being traumatized having seen their dog on life support, Hayley and Jeff are inspired to draw up a will as to what to do in case if they are in a similar situation. Its here we find out Jeff at one time owned the lucrative publishing rights to Blues Traveler’s back catalog, that is until he gave the rights away to his ex-wife, Patricia . However, when they try to get their lawyer Bernie involved in the negotiations, he ends up marrying Patricia.

The B-story involving Hayley and Jeff was utterly pointless. That being said, Stan was awesome with this dog situation. For one, the cat balloon crusher had more of a Family Guy feel to it, but it worked so well as it was random as hell. Plus the whole act where Stan blows the fucking dog up might be one of the single funniest moments in history, especially with the dog’s bloody head streaking down the window freaking out Francine. One really funny surprise was the dog dreams as at first I thought they were, ehhh, but in the last dream Freddy takes a bazooka to some river monsters, having ME believe that it was written on an acid trip of some kind akin to the dream sequences we typically get in a show like China, IL. Which is just fine with me!
